Fans who pre-order Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be able to download Cloud Strife's Buster Sword and outfit for use in the upcoming action-RPG, Square Enix has announced.

The popular Final Fantasy VII character's equipment includes a new finishing animation and famous victory fanfare - yep, this one - for lead character Lightning, and helps players rank up to level 99 faster.

"We are overjoyed to announce that pre-ordering Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will unlock the most epic Final Fantasy weapon and outfit of all time – Cloud Strife's SOLDIER 1st Class Uniform and Buster Sword," wrote senior product manager Amritz Lay.

"When you pre-order Lightning Returns: Final; Fantasy XIII, you will receive the exclusive Cloud Strife SOLDIER 1st Class DLC — straight from Final Fantasy VII — for free! So you'll get the SOLDIER 1st Class Uniform, Buster Sword, and Soldier Band… but not Cloud's blocky hands."

The pre-order bonus is said to be a limited time offer. A trailer offering a closer look at the DLC can be found below.

Fans have been clamouring for a Final Fantasy VII remake for years now. This is the closest you're likely to get for a while.

In addition to the Cloud Strife DLC, a second 'Lightning Samurai Set' will also be available as a pre-order bonus. The set features unique looks and abilities based around Samurai warriors, plus exclusive Shogun, Sohei Savior and Flower of Battle items.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII launches on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on February 14, 2014.

lol, I'm quite the FF7 fan, but I really don't mind this at all.
Like being able to use Grey Fox's exoskeleton in MG Rising.

Actually looks pretty good on her.
It's a nice change to see a woman wearing the (partial) SOLDIER First Class uniform.
