38 Studios, the developer behind Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, is facing financial difficulties, reports NBC 10 in Rhode Island.

"We're always working to keep Rhode Island companies solvent, and that's what we're doing with 38 Studios," said Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee to the local NBC affiliate.

Rhode Island made a $75 million loan guarantee in 2010 to initially bring 38 Studios to Rhode Island.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning released earlier this year and sold 410,000 copies in its first two months on sale in the US. This figures doesn't include sales in the rest of the world or those made digitally. Analysis

Given apparent strong sales it is a little surprising to hear that the studio is struggling. 38 Studios is yet to offer comment.

I am honestly surprised it sold that much, given how the demo lacked anything that set it apart from every standard fantasy pseudo-hacknslash-rpg cliche.

I hear the DLC migh have offered a little in the means of making the world a touch more unique, but too little too late to bring me in as a customer. Even at £15 (new) I decided against it the other day.
