PSP and Nintendo DS versions of Hitman and Kane & Lynch were once in development at IO Interactive, it’s been revealed.

‘Hitman: Tactics’ and ‘Kane & Lynch Tactics’ are both listed on the LinkedIn profile of ex-IO Interactive game designer Jesper Donnis, who claims that a handheld version of Hitman had been in development at the studio in 2006, and a handheld Kane & Lynch during 2007.

Neither game had been officially announced by Square Enix and, according to Donnis’ profile, both games were cancelled for unspecified reasons.

The most recent Hitman title, Hitman Absolution, went on sale in November 2012. The next Hitman title, expected to release later this year or next, is currently in development at Square Enix Montreal.

According to the developer’s website, IO Interactive is currently developing an “unannounced 3rd person game with strong cooperative multiplayer elements”.
