What we've been playing this week
Martin Gaston, Reviews Editor - Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
Still playing Call of Duty: Black Ops II, sorry. I've also had a few games of Dota 2 with the usual dream team, but you'll all be bored of that by now. So it's all Call of Duty: Black Ops II all of the time. Here's a rare, valuable and insightful peek into my last week:
Monday: Dave managed to prestige over the weekend, which meant he was totally smug as he turned up to the office. I was both furious and jealous. I demanded Nellis make this week's Live Show about Black Ops II so I could catch up. Treyarch announced that evening they were pulling Nuketown 2025 and I was so cross (I don't like Nuketown 2025, but it's just the cheek of it) that I didn't play any.
Tuesday: Did the Black Ops II livestream with the rest of the VG crew. Was still quite irritated about Treyarch yanking Nuketown 2025 off the playlist, even though I don't much care for the map. Built a few new classes, unlocked a few weapons, managed to get a few levels. Success.
Wednesday: Played four matches in the evening and won all of them, but then realised I wasn't playing on my profile. Inside I was consumed by anger but on the outside I was totally cool and not at all childish about it.
Thursday: Tried to play the game in our games room during lunch hour but the Internet connection was complete junk, and kept ruining everything. In one game I only had one bar. One bar! Our internet connection at VG Towers is supposed to be incredible so lord knows what was going on. Either way, total bust. Minimal XP gains. Level 49.
Friday: Played some Black Ops II in the evening. Probably. We write these things on Friday afternoon so I haven't actually done it yet. We'll see what time I manage to make it back after the mandatory Friday afternoon post-work pub trip.

Finally got 200k on Chasm Ten on Halo ODST yesterday. It took me four hours on easy, but I played on for another hour - I'm still not sure why - and then my Xbox froze and I lost my high score :( I still got the achievement, and I'm very lucky it didn't freeze earlier and make me start all over again.
I'm patching Metal Gear Solid 4 so I can get some trophies on it this week before Wii U is released. Other than that, I've not really got much I want to play. Every time I go back to Borderlands 2 it feels like a chore.

It's getting to the point where my PC is starting to struggle with a couple of the latest Indies games. The CPU is up to scratch and put the graphics card isn't pushing the boat out, and I only have just enough ram to scrape through most stuff. With the other next gen consoles just around the corner, I think it's a good time to start saving for a decent custom built upgrade now. By mid 2014 when the next gen is in full swing, (I hope) I'll be able to one up the current consoles with a decent rig. You can never think to far ahead. :)

I'm just "MJTH", and my code is "4038 6012 4826"
To add me just click the smiley face in the top right corner, type in the code and my name, and that should be it.
Hopefully, when Nintendo updates the 3DS to better support the "Nintendo Network", they'll fix the codes system for good.

So, the games..
Mario Kart 7 is a blast. Great racing, great visuals, great fun. It's Mario Kart. I preempted that the new gimmicks would be stupid and distracting from the racing. I was very wrong. They're brilliant and fit perfectly. The 3D remakes of some older courses are also great. This could quite possibly be my favourite Mario Kart game. I just need to get some multiplayer games in before I decide. Any takers? I'm not 100% sure how to add friends on it yet. But, if anybody wants to get some racing in, then gimmie a shout :) I think my username is 'munkeekid'. I'm just not sure if that's how we find each other on 3DS.
ALso, been playing SM3DL. Only on world 3, so too soon to judge. But, it seems brilliant. The 3D is fantastic and it plays great. But hey, it's Mario. I'd expect nothing less.
Hopefully this week ill pick up a couple of carts. I want Castlevania: Order of Eccelssia and Megaman ZX Advent. Presumably, I won't find these on the high street. Castlevania is on Amazon. But, I'm a little cautious about getting Megaman from ebay. Anybody else know of a reliable place I could buy it from?

Also, lots of Poker (Full House Poker).
It seems I always flip between these two games now when in the gaming doldrums and waiting for my next opus to arrive. In this case I'm waiting for Far Cry 3. Which has Poker and Racing Challenges in it. If things work out beautifully I probably won't see the sun again for a long time. If they don't, I've been itching to get back into Borderlands 2 again, so I get to save on sun cream either way.
