Welcome to Heads-up, our weekly feature which gives you an at-a-glance run-down on the games you'll be able to buy or rent this weekend. Every Monday we'll pick out the best of the bunch, link to our reviews and previews and keep you in the video game loop so you have enough time to pre-order for Friday's post. Time to blow the dough.

Worth a look

EDF: Insect Armageddon and Cars 2 are both good fun if you're after some throwaway entertainment. Neither will be on anyone's game of the year list, but considering the summer drought we're thankful we've got anything decent to play. Cars 2 is definitely one for the younger gamers though, with adults likely to find the whole thing a little simple.

We don't normally include budget releases in Heads-up, but these three are worth considering if you've yet to play the games included. The Uncharted Double Pack is clearly the pick of the bunch, but Ratchet & Clank is an excellent series on PS3 too. Resistance isn't such a well-loved series, but with the third game out soon this double pack is the ideal way to get up to speed.

And the rest...

Most of this looks like complete rubbish, but Call of Juarez is certainly a cut above the Coronation Street game. This doesn't mean it's not a bit of a disappointment following the cult success of the previous entries in the series.

  • Pro Farm 1 - PC
  • Demolition Company Gold - PC
  • Coronation Street: The Mystery of the Missing Hotpot Recipe - PC
  • Call of Juarez: The Cartel - Xbox 360 and PS3

I'm not impressed by Deus Ex's "here's a little area, see if you can discover 40 ways to get through it!" gameplay. Had enough of that in Alpha Protocol (which, by the way, isn't that bad, I've finished it). So I'm skipping, might pick it up next year in the sales if it goes down in price.

Deus Ex is out before RAGE! What about that?

I'm with FM and have Rage next on my must-buy list. I'm also a bad person as Uncharted 1 & 2 each sit on my shelf waiting to be played...

You've got a whole world of 360 games to catch up with!

Edit: at least I think Batman is before Deus Ex?

Meh, I was hoping Call of Juarez was going to be another Red Dead Redemption (albeit modern day) but was wondering why all the gameplay videos so far were rather limited in scope rather than showing massive open worlds. Guess I'll have to wait for the reviews.

Only thing on my radar at present is Rage, so I've got a few months to play catchup with about 80 games.

Speak for yourselves. I have no doubt that EDF:IA will be right up there in my thoughts as GOTY contender. 2017 got that vote from me in the past.

EDF: Insect Armageddon. I'm sooo wanting this. Belated birthday present to myself I think.

I will purchase precisely zero of these games, however if anyone hasn't played Uncharted now is the time. You bad person, you.
