Halo Wars News

For:Xbox 360 Release Date: 27 February 2009

Ensemble dev emphatically denies the possibility of a port; says they'd rather work on a sequel.

Halo Wars will never make the journey from console to PC, according to the game's lead developer. We spoke to Ensemble's Graeme Devine at a Microsoft press event last week, and enquired about the possibility of a port in the near future:

"Zero. Never. I'm going to go on the record and say never ever! Microsoft may go and announce it, but I'll say never."

Devine went on to stress that the forthcoming RTS has been designed with console gaming in mind, and that this where the game will stay.

"The whole point of the game was to do it with the controller, it was never to think of, 'oh my gosh, in two years time let's do it on PC.' It was never ever that. Let's put the effort into Halo Wars 2, rather than making Halo Wars work on PC. Halo Wars is a console game, and it was designed to work on a console. So let's keep it on a console."

Work on the title is largely finished, he added, with "pretty much everyone" at Ensemble now playing the game ahead of its release next year.

I played halo wars on the xbox 360. Truly its a nice operating system for what its for. I have played other RTS games on Xbox and their truly horrible. I understand that its a great marketing plan, but truly its the worst plan ever. If a game comes out someone want to play it really bad cause it seems like an awesome game and then they are told "no sorry its only for the xbox". Then they get discouraged and never want it even when it comes out 1 or 2 years later. Or figure that its sucked that bad on xbox that they need it on other systems. One day they will learn. PUT IT ON PC!!!

I live and breath for RTS games...at the point where you're going to stick it on a console, you lost me. You can spout bull**** all day long about how an X-Box controller is better than a mouse + 70 keys on my keyboard, but I don't buy it, and I don't believe anyone else would either.

And when you're going to boldly announce for your game "Halo Wars" that you've developed a bunch of content that you're not going to release with the game, and hold off on releasing it until later? That's some serious anti-consumer behavior. That's half the reason Spore flopped (DRM being the other half). EA released a half-done game, and kept all the things *NEEDED* to make the game decent out of the release so that they could sell it as "expansions."

Great model that they're following on this one. I hope it flops just as badly. Lets see...releasing an RTS for a console (traditional fail) by hyping up how much better it will be than any PC RTS control system (asking for a let down here) and promising potential customers that not only are you going to not let them use it on the system and controller (Mouse+keyboard) that is most sought after to play RTS games on, but that you're ALSO not going to give your customers half the content you made for the game...instead you're going to hold it in reserve and ask them for more money later on.

Brilliant business plan! I look forward to saying "I told you so."

it isnt about how much it sells , RTS is not a good genre for xbox

there hasent been a blockbuster rts on console but there hav been some very gud rts's : CAC3 , CACRA . LOTR BFME2 , ENDWAR (<<i liked the voice command sytem pretty much , led to a much faster gameplay than usual )

what if this game flops, can I also ask if any of the other rts sold very well on console or done well?

That is alot of money they will lose if the game doesn't sell. I am sure that game dev will be eating his or her words if the game doesn't sell.
