Halo 4 will launch with support for the Surface tablet, Microsoft exec Don Mattrick confirmed at the GameBeat 2012 conference last night, reports VentureBeat.

Surface will launch once Windows 8 rolls out in October.

It's not knownm how the Surface tablet will be used with Halo 4, but some form of SmartGlass second screen functionality seems likely.

Halo 4 will launch November 6.

Maps, objectives, achievement lists, pointless made up stats about the warthog or enemies and adverts to make you buy the dlc that's the kinda thing I'm expecting from every game that integrates smart glass support, it's free and as long as it doesn't become mandatory in game then I'm all for it.

Hi XBoob ;D

People probably fell asleep during the MS conference so forgot that they said all 1st party would use it. But the news here is also that Halo 4 would use it at launch rather than it be implemented later.

All I can really see being practicable and beneficial is extended Waypoint and bungie.net data. I want heatmaps and stats from the match I just left, with a really efficient UI on my SmartGlass.

I was under the impression MS would try and use it in games in some way as well, but I guess they have over-sold it a little. I'll just stick with my Lumia 800, I think.

Hello Woffls ;) Smart glass isn't like Wii U. For Halo it'll most likely be used for Halo Waypoint data, maybe a real-time map of where your team are in MP. It won't be used for gameplay - and everything it does will be 100% optional.

Signed up just to say this: Microsoft said at E3 that ALL first party games would have Smart Glass functionality. Why is this news today?

Halo is the last game I would ever want to play with tablet support. In most games I wouldn't find it to be an issue, but Halo is very fast paced when you're in combat, and you really can lose a game in less than a second.
