Team discussing other ideas outside of the Halo franchise.
Halo 4 is not in development, a senior Bungie employee has revealed.
Speaking in an interview with Pro-G at the launch of Halo 3, which promises to be one of the biggest selling games of all time, Lee Wilson, cinematic designer and Joe Tung, multiplayer producer, said the team was interested in exploring new games.
Wilson said: "There's a lot of people who have been working on Halo much longer than us two have and they're really interested in exploring new games, new stories, and whatever comes out of those conversations is what we're going to pursue. We're still going to make games for us."
It seems inevitable that Microsoft would want a fourth Halo FPS given how lucrative the franchise is for the publisher. Microsoft hopes day one sales will top £70m, more than the opening takings of any movie in history. The game is crucial to the success of the Xbox project, which is yet to see profit. The publisher hopes Halo 3, which achieved more than a million pre-orders prior to release, will finally drag the game division into the black.
However, Bungie has said previously that Halo 3 brings to a close the current story arc, fuelling speculation among some gamers that we may have seen the last of the Master Chief.
When quizzed on the subject last night, Joe Tung, multiplayer producer at Bungie Studios, said that the team was "figuring out right now what we're working on next".
He added: "We really don't know what that is yet but as soon as we know, everyone else will know. Halo 4 is not in development."

Oni 2! Oni 2! (Not bloody likely, thinks I.)
A new Marathon game might be on the cards, though. We can but hope, anyway.

Bullsh!t
My butt they aren't working on it. Here's where they are "lying".....
1) The ending to HALO3..... finish it on Legendary. Then tell me they don't have another one in mind.
2) They said it "brings to a close the current story arc"....... that's the same thing as saying.... "This particular storyline is done." They aren't saying that there ISN'T a COMPLETELY NEW STORYLINE in the works.
3) Not in Development doesn't mean they aren't thinking about it. All it means is that they aren't currently.... at this very moment.... doing work specific to it.

Why there should be a Halo 4
The ending was awsome but, it was a type of ending that makes you think there should be another side to the story. I think there should be a Halo 4. And others think there should not be one. Bungie should just think about it and give a lot of thought into it and make another chapter to the evolution of HALO.

I'm both ways on the subject
I find that a trilogy is a trilogy. Yes it has made several millions. And it would make since for there to be a fourth in that matter and i would love for there to be one. But then you have to think, it's supposed to be a trilogy and they closed up the story pretty well. No matter how great it is there has to be an ending. Don't get me wrong however, a fourth would be amazing but would it have a good story line enough to keep the vibe on the real halo? They won't produce another one if they really want to keep this trilogy perfect.

BS!!!!!
There is absolutely NO WAY there wont be a HAlo 4. Like Ian MCC said, theres no way they'd leave us hanging with what happened at the end if u beat it on legendary. As popular and as far as Halo has come, there's no way the worlds most successful game will end with tons of questions... NO WAY!!!!!!! And if this is the last game...WTF BUNGIE????????!!!!!!!!
