Veteran Halo composer Marty O'Donnell says that he was terminated from Bungie "without cause" five days ago.

"I'm saddened to say that Bungie's board of directors terminated me without cause on April 11, 2014," O'Donnell tweeted earlier today.

Bungie later confirmed O'Donnell's departure in a short statement on its website.

"For more than a decade, Marty O'Donnell filled our worlds with unforgettable sounds and soundtracks, and left an indelible mark on our fans," wrote Bungie community manager David Dague. "Today, as friends, we say goodbye. We know that wherever his journey takes him, he will always have a bright and hopeful future. We wish him luck in all his future endeavours."

Bungie has yet to disclose its reasons for terminating O'Donnell.

O'Donnell joined Bungie in 2000 having previously been contracted to produce the music for Myth 2 and Oni. He went on to compose the soundtrack for the Halo trilogy, Halo 3: ODST and Halo Reach, and had been working with Paul McCartney on the soundtrack for Bungie's next title Destiny.
