Microsoft today announced that Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned has not only become the highest reviewed downloadable content ever, but has also eclipsed first-day revenue for all previous downloadable content on Xbox LIVE.

The Lost and Damned also energised the game's community, with a greater increase in active users of GTA 4 in the week before launch than seen from any previous DLC.

"The success of 'Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned' redefines what consumers expect from Game Add-ons," said Marc Whitten, general manager of Xbox LIVE. "Content like this is extending the lives of our favourite games and fundamentally changing the way we play."

The Lost and Damned is available now exclusively from Xbox LIVE Marketplace priced 1600 MS Points. Find out why you should buy it in the VideoGamer.com review.

gta has become the biggest franchisee in gaming even bigger than mario and pokemon which is proved by record sales of even a dlc. Good deal for both microsoft and rockstar. Anyways, lost and damned is simply mindblowing. I had to but a 360, gta 4 360. But now finally got it. It has just downloaded and i am about to play it in minutes

I would have thought Rockstar will make the money from the DLC (with a small fee going to MS) but then MS will make the money from any console sales off the back of this (and previously when they announced the DLC).

If it was only $50 Million they paid they got an absolute bargain as by no means the revenue from this DLC will top that by far thats with out the 2 more installments we have to come.

Surprising figures as a lot of people have been saying they're fed up of waiting and traded the game in already.

What this probably means is:
A lot of people have picked GTA4 up second hand or in the sales or have bought it again just to play the Lost and Damned content.

I kept mine as I could happily wait for the content to arrive (though it's still downloading on my 360 now).

But good news for Microsoft anyway, after spending $50 million they need some return!

Good news I still think it needs to be pushed more on TV. Let people know it's out there a bit more and exclusive. I mean if you want to shift more consoles this game is it! Past sales back me up 100 %.
