Grand Theft Auto V confirmed

Debut trailer coming November 2, 2011.

Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto V is in development with the game's first trailer to be released November 2, 2011.

The Rockstar Games website currently features only the GTA5 logo and confirmation of the trailer.

This comes as a huge surprise to the industry, just when we though the only thing left to get hyped about was the autumn games glut.

First impressions of the logo are that the "V" gives the impression of a bank note. The presence of a trailer, assuming we see some glimpse of the game, also suggests a 2012 release date.

That's a damn fine observation.

The player will spend the game trying to fight against the system and eventually realise that all they're aiming for is power and fancy stuff. That's when Rockstar will try and make a profound statement on capitalism and fall flat on their arses because they can't make serious characters.

I think Pearson (who made the cash observation) is bang on the the money with this.

In 2011, who are the biggest criminals in the eyes of Joe Public? Bankers, and the finance industry.

GTA IV ripped a hole in the fantasy of the American Dream. Expect GTA 5 to be about greed, and in a big way.

I had a load of fun with the IV multiplayer. Especially if you change the radar settings so that the blips disappear once the other player is within a block of you. It made the game quite stealthy and tense... Then *BAM* rockets launchers, machine guns and motor bikes, haha.

Well it's not exactly surprising that another GTA game is in the works and they wouldn't want Saints Row 3 to hog too much of the limelight.

I thought the multiplayer in IV was pretty good, so I hope they improve further on that.

It very much looks like money, especially if you look at the super-size version on the GTA site. It'd be cool to have a super-corporate setting, glimmering skyscrapers and an ultra-modern setting.

The styling of the "V" and banner suggest to me it might be a continuation of the GTA IV gameplay found in the Lost & Damned. Biker culture sort of thing. We've had mobster (GTA III), drug cartels (GTA Vice City), gangsta (GTA: SA) and Russian mafia (GTA IV) storylines. Bikers seem to pop up in each of these previous games, and I could definitely see a whole game being made out of it.

Personally I was hoping we'd see a game based on the Yakuza or Triads. It'd be nice to tear up Tokyo or something similar as opposed to New York City all the time. Maybe even go back to Miami, that was fun!

Hmmm... I'd much prefer a new Bully sequel, but if it has to be a new GTA game, then I would like to see the 60's London revisited. Always fun to be had in that time period!

The styling of the 'V', however, is reminiscent of the gangland culture seen in the Saints Row series - not something that interests me... I do hope your analysis is closer to the truth, but it looks like a tattoo to me.

Agreed. I was so disappointed in IV, but I'm sure they can bounce back. GTA 1, 2 and 3 were all progressive improvements, 1 little dip shouldnt change the habit of a lifetime :)

I thought GTAIV was horrendously overrated, but I'm still super excited to see this trailer. Either London or a Vice City-esque beachy area would be great.
