Play.com says GTA 4 sales have "gone crazy"

"The biggest ever title for PS3 by a long way," says Play.com's head of games.

Speaking to MCV, Play.com's head of games Gian Luzio has revealed that Grand Theft Auto IV is "far and away the biggest selling title" he's ever seen on PS3.

Demand has been so high for the title that retailers are struggling to keep up with pre-orders. However, Luzio predicts Play.com will have more stock for the game's release on Tuesday, April 29.

Luzio added: "This is the biggest ever title for PS3 by a long way - and probably 360 as well. I've been really blown away by how quickly it's sold on PS3.

"Sales have gone crazy and have proven to be a real hardware driver already. We've sold out now, but will be getting in more stock as soon as it becomes available."

im still waiting for my ps3 with gta4 from play. i got fed up and walked to the game store to buy one but in that space of 30 minutes play took my money. FFS!

dude wtF U jokes BS i got a Xbox 360 not because im poor (WELL I'M REALLY NOT POOR) i have a flatscreen tv in my room eh only 14 by the way but still about $300 in the bank i just think the price for ps3 isnt worth it when 360 clearlly matchs the ps3. so rethink your message *and the $300 in bank well thats all my money not my parents iv worked for it*

If you read what Luzio says carefully Mr PS3 Owner you'l note he says "This is the biggest ever title for PS3 by a long way - and probably 360 as well. I've been really blown away by how quickly it's sold on PS3".

This is indicitave of the fact that PS3 SOFTWARE sales have been POOR upto to press to say the least.
Note the comment about the 360 and bear in mind HALO3 smashed ALL the records for ANY release of all time, including cinema releases.

So the fact it's selling BIGTIME on PS3 is yes a plus for SONY. But to take that and say it's selling bigger than the 360 is delusional. Unless I'm sorely mistaken NO single softeware title on PS3 has come even close to the sales generated by HALO3, which is currently 360's benchmark. So the fact Luzio stated he thinks GTA4 might even eclipse even that indicates it's going to generate HUUUGE sales on the 360 - the biggest EVER OF ALL TIME EVER.

None of that actually matters though, cos R* that just hit the jackpot, not SONY or MS!

So to reiterate what Karlius said: FANBOY!

LOL I bet MS are regretting blowing the GDP of a small African nation trying to piggy back on GTA's success now!!! Obviously they under-estimated how much of an association Joe Bloggs public makes with the GTA and PlayStation brands.

Add to that the rumours that Sony have secured exclusive advertising rights for GTAIV in Europe and the GTA IV Europe PS3 bundle and you are going to see the PS3 eclipse the 360's sales in Europe by the end of the year, if not sooner.
