Jack Thompson battles to stop GTA IV being sold to kids
Florida-based lawyer Jack Thompson has called upon Bill Gates to prevent GTA IV from going on sale.
Famous for his campaigns to prevent the sale of violent video games, Thompson's latest target is Grand Theft Auto IV. In a mass email sent to a number of news outlets, Thompson calls upon Microsoft chairman Bill Gates to prevent the sale of the game.
Titled "Bill Gates in the Crosshairs," the email puts forward Thompson's plan to ensure the sale of Grand Theft Auto IV is prohibited and asks the Microsoft chairman to "please have your lawyers contact me in order that such sales will be prevented."
Once again pointing towards the sale of violent video games to minors, Thompson notes that a December report from the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility "makes it abundantly clear that unless such prohibitions are in place, then millions of units of the new Grand Theft Auto game will be sold directly to minors."
This is crux of the matter and Thompson says that he is "intent upon making sure that that does not happen. I and others will endeavour to stop Microsoft from participating in any fashion, directly or indirectly, in such sales to minors."
Why Thompson has decided to focus his attention on Microsoft and the Xbox 360 version of GTA: IV is not explained in the email.
