Speaking to 1UP back in January, but only now published in full, Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser has revealed that there were initial challenges getting Grand Theft Auto IV up and running on the PlayStation 3.

"Getting things running on the PS3 initially was challenging," said Houser. "I think it was challenging for a lot of companies, but it's also a machine where, now that we've got comfortable with it - I don't want to say we've cracked it, but we've got comfortable with it - we know we can make our games."

As for how the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions compare, Houser says there's not much in it.

"We're at a point now where the games pretty much look identical side by side," he explained. "There's a slight difference in the way they look. I think that's to do with really low-level technical stuff that I'm not the guy to explain. The 360 games have a certain look to them; PS3 games have a certain look to them. I like the way [the PS3] renders. There's a certain kind of softness without being blurry - some warmth to it - and then there's a certain more clinical element to how the 360 looks."

He concluded: "Both have plusses and minuses. As far as I'm concerned, they're neck and neck now."

Grand Theft Auto IV will be hitting stores on April 29 for Xbox 360 and PS3.

okay....X-Box owners will say the 360 is better. PS3 owners will say there's is better. Owners of both will lean one way. So there is no reason for trying to explain anything to a fanboy.

'' no PS3 Sixaxis support. the Xbox 360 version will have access to exclusive episodic content, which, in my mind, makes the 360 version the one to get. We've also heard rumblings that the release date of the game has been held back because of PS3 development issues.''

Caid said it well, However (you know a BUT is coming) I've had to replace my PS3 already due to faulty blueray. But my xbox 360 is twice as old and hasn't had an issue yet. I'll buy the game on 360. My reason is the extra content. Yea, I'm THAT guy that watched all the extra features on DVD's too.
I prefer the sharper detail, especially when I go head to head on any game (COD4 is a prime example).

And PS3 will have downloadable content, just not the same as the stuff MS paid $50m for as an exclusive. In fact, there's no saying that the MS content isn't just a timed exclusive as full details haven't been released. Rockstar themselves said that DLC would most likely be on the PS3 in some form.

The PS3 defintely has 'warmer' visuals..... 360 is too cut and dry, often kind of plastic looking. I think Houser put it best with 'clinical'. He was not saying it was worse but he prefers PS3.... His opinion is the one that counts most with me though :p

Remember that the PS3 has SIXAXIS and the this is incorporated into the PS3 version and not the 360 one.

We all know that the graphics on both the 360 and the ps3 both brilliant but i would be happy with either, but long term GTA IV will be better on the 360 due the the download content they will be getting that won't be available on the ps3.

gta 4 will look best on the pc when it comes out. the series began there, and pc's have more power than ps3 or a 360. it will look great on all of them, and nitpicking cracks me up as a primarily pc gamer.. because neither console can run games anywhere near 1600x1200 resolutions. hd is considerably lower even. *shrug* cant wait to play the game. seems pointless to argue about something like that though. too bad that ps3 and 360 gamers cant play online together , oh well.

Dan Houeser didn't say it's better, he said he likes it better. He also said they're neck and neck. I am buying the ps3 version of this game because I like the reliablity of the ps3. If there were no question of reliability for the 360 I would much rather that version. I think by clinical, it's to say more of a realistic feel.

I personally think the 360 handles lighting far better than the ps3, but this is only my opinion.

Caid.
