EA has promised Grand Theft Auto fans that it won't change a thing if its proposed $2bn takeover of Take-Two is accepted.

Earlier this evening it was revealed that EA has offered $2billion to take control of Take-Two, which owns Grand Theft Auto developer Rockstar.

Detailed in a FAQ on the proposal, EA asked itself the question: "Do you intend to kill or restrict any of the R* franchises?", to which it responded: "We strongly believe that behind all the controversy is a core of great intellectual property and development talent. These titles don't sell millions because they're controversial; they sell because they're great games. We have no plans to change that."

In an open letter published on the internet, EA chief John Riccitiello reassured fans of Take Two, which publishes Grand Theft Auto IV, due out April 29, and BioShock, which was released to critical acclaim in the middle of last year, that it would continue to bring gamers more of the publisher's "great games" if the deal goes through.

He said: "For people who buy and play games, know that we too are fans of Take-Two and Rockstar products and feel we can provide their creative teams with the support they deserve to continue to bring you more of their great games in the future."

Over to you. Will EA ruin Rockstar if it buys Take-Two? Let us know in the comments section below.

Quantity doesn't equal quality. EA buys out developers that make great games, then just pretty much ditch all innovative and artistic qualities a game may have in favor of producing a profitable sequel. Instead of pushing the boundaries, they simply put out the same damn game with improved graphics. I'd hate to see a company like take2, become a watered down cash cow for EA.

EA has been the biggest and most popular game company next to Activision for a long time. EA also leads all company's in the amount of titles they put out in a year and i believe they also have released the most games to date.

A majority of the games i own are from EA. Alot of their games have great or unbelieveable graphics and run pretty good. It's more likely that they will make GTA5 even better if they keep to their promise with 4.

Tony Hawk games have no chance in Hell. Sk84life!

Usually when big companies take over smaller ones, it's only a matter of time before they start to meddle in the affairs. 999 out of 1000 people who hold power will use that power/influence.
I just hope EA can keep the promise they make. But I fear that they will try to "make the games better" and screw up my beloved Rockstar games.

Only time will tell if the deal goes through
