I don't know how I feel about PES 2014. I've been playing the PS3 demo for about an hour, and it's a mixture of brilliance and awkward fumbling. To be fair, this could be largely down to the fact that I've been more or less solely a FIFA player this console generation, but it could also be a sign that things aren't as rosy in PES Land as they could be.

It may be a case that gelling with PES 2014 will take a long time, perhaps offering more rewards to those who are willing to invest the hours. We'll see, but on first impressions there's no doubt in my mind that FIFA 14 is the more accessible and enjoyable game.

It's amazing how you forget all about the fuzz - and no, in this instance I'm not talking about the police. Liberty City's hazy, mono-coloured look may seem dated by today's standards, but it's still every bit the classic it was on arrival.

I've never understood a lot of the hate GTA 4's attracted in recent years. Sure, I don't agree with parts of Rockstar's design, especially the sections that are criticised most often (the 'friends' system & the sombre tone), but I've had loads of fun revisiting 'The Worst Place In America' throughout the week.

Anyway, it will be here in just four days time – and the wait is slowly sending me insane. I can't remember being this excited for the launch of a game since... well, Grand Theft Auto 4, and resisting the temptation to watch over Simon's shoulder has been pretty unbearable. I guess it's too late to ask for the day off, right...? Guys?

With almost everybody avoiding GTA 5 release week like the plague, I've spent most of my playing time this week with Ubisoft's offerings from Digital Days. You can read more about those here . I've also been playing a couple of upcoming football titles that I can't, of course, talk about just yet, but our full verdict is on its way. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a certain open-world crime sim to wait impatiently for.

New stuff to check out

I've been playing Assassins Creed Revelations but I'm finding it hard to enjoy it as much as I did the other AC's. It just feels too samey to me.

More Torchlight 2 this week. I've given up trying to work (well... play) towards my 3DS backlog. I'm bringing my 3DS to university (but not my PC or WiiU) so I'll save my 3DS backlog for when I'm at uni and I have a little free time.

Also I kind of feel sorry for the VG crew, because since they work in the games industry, they work in one of the few professions in which you can't book sick leave or a week off during GTA 5 week, because all their colleagues will know they are playing GTA 5.

Ive been playing Jak II and well... I have no idea how I completed that game 10 years ago. Some of the missions are impossible and the fact that Im adddicted to trophies doesnt help. Damn collectibles.

I've just got around to playing the recent Zelda remake on the 3DS, as well the new Fire emblem. It's weird not having played the original, feels like i missed out as a kid.

Luigis Mansion 2 is one of my highlights this year. I also played Donkey Kong Country Returns. I'm not keen on it though. Although the gameplay is tight and its well made I simply don't enjoy the weight of Donkey Kong. It's turns me off it :(

I have been gearing up for an attempt at a Dark souls speed run by practicing individual areas and different skips. Aiming for under an hour and a half, less than one stream of pants man. Wish me luck.

ACIII: PS+ has been a lovely one for letting me replay stuff, and after the ***** prologue with Haythem bit, and them having free roam in the frontier, stalking animals, convoys, forts, completing challenges, it feels great to do that stuff, it's a shame the game isn't focused more around these features. So I've just finished the tea party and not done much since.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5: Best HDification ever. I don't care about the judgers, the game is fun, non-sensical and effectively legal porn for the child at heart types, ha! Also, I haven't seen a big published game with so many beautiful, colourful textures in a long time.

WSOP: Full House Pro on XBLA (it's FREE!!!!)! I'm into the grindy achievements now, someone ring the Oxford English Dictionary and add that word to the adjectives. In this case 'grindy' isn't so bad as it just involves playing Poker, I guess the difficult bit is winning consistently to build up a bankroll to meet the cheevo requirements.

And...

Nothing else. It's been Poker Week all week chez FM.

The Last of Us still dominates my PS3. I've played nothing but the online component this week in my efforts to bag the final 2 trophies. I am on the brink of getting one of them but I've been there before and failed so still plenty to do. GTA V's release next week is very inconvenient.

On the handheld it's been nothing but the 3DS this week. I swapped Animal Crossing for Donkey Kong Country Returns and loving it although it is getting tricky now. And still thoroughly enjoying Luigi's Mansion 2
