The announcement trailer suggests Gears of War 3 will be the end, and Microsoft has now confirmed this to be true. However, while Gears 3 will be the final game in the Gears of War trilogy it doesn't mean we won't see more from the franchise in the future.

In a press release confirming the game's April 8, 2011 release date, Microsoft stated: "Gears of War 3 plunges players into a harrowing tale of hope, survival, and brotherhood that will conclude the current story arc for Gears of War."

It's the end all right, but only for the "current story arc". What follows is anyone's guess.

shame that they are going to end this current story arc as it is pretty damn awsome i even think its better than the halo story tbh

Spotted that too. There is no doubt there is ample room for a prequel with the Pendulum Wars and what happened with Mr Fenix Snr.

You'll also notice at the back end of the trailer the Words "Brothers To The End". Just before the cut to logo and date the "Brothers To" part fades out first just leaving "The End" for a split second.

Not sure if anyone else had picked up on that>?

I think the next step will be a prequel with the focus being on the Pendulum Wars.
