Gears of War 2 sales pass 5 million

Overall Gears of War franchise unit sales have eclipsed 11 million worldwide.

Microsfot and Epic Games today announced that Gears of War 2 has now surpassed five million copies sold worldwide. The blockbuster sequel launched exclusively for Xbox 360 in November 2008 to critical acclaim.

Overall Gears of War franchise sales have also reached a new milestone, eclipsing 11 million units worldwide. The first Gears of War title was released for Xbox 360 back in November 2006. A PC version was released a year later.

To commemorate these milestones, Microsoft Game Studios today announced the July 28 release of new multiplayer and campaign content - more on that here.

5 million sales of GOW2 is awesome. Well done. Ensures there'll be a third episode and no doubt 360 exclusive.

Must be some smug people over at MS.

KZ2 has the potential to get close to MGS4'S 4 million just hope they don't heavily discount it to get there.
