Speaking on the latest Major Nelson podcast, Microsoft Game Studios boss Phil Spencer congratulated both Epic Games and Lionhead on the success of Gears of War 2 and Fable II.

Last month Microsoft announced that Fable II had sold 1.5 million units worldwide, making it the fastest-selling RPG on the Xbox 360. While official launch figures for Gears of War 2 stood at two million units, Spencer revealed to Major Nelson that the game is now "pushing three [million]".

The first Gears of War title took ten weeks to reach sales of three million units, and currently stands at over five million units worldwide.

Someone has to bring up some sony games lol

Fable 2 had over 1mil sales in its first week, I'm sure FM posted that somewhere around the forum. Wouldn't minding knowing what Gears 2 got for its first week out, so I can laugh at the Sony fanboys even though I do own a PS3 myself but still and I also own the 360. :P

Amazing. If the 24 million mark is correct thats a 1 in 8 take up for the game and thats pretty damn impressive. Considering Christmas is yet to come! Add this to the fact that Fable 2 is up around the 1.8 million mark now and you can see how MS dominate the software market especially in comparrison to LBP which has sold less than 1 million copies world wide. Or Metal Gear Solid 4 which has sales of 3.5 million over a 6 month period.
The Wii is doing well also. But if you take a flagship game such as Super Mario Galaxy which was released around the same time as Halo 3 and Halo 3 has out sold Mario by a million copies. Even with the Wii take up.
(Wii Fit has sold 11 million units but i don't class this as a game)
