Apparently Namco's development of Frame City Killer hasn't been going to plan. Speaking to Famitsu Xbox 360, producer Kentaro Kawashima and director Masaki Kunimori have been commenting on some of the issues faced using the Unreal Engine 3.

"The Unreal Engine itself is an exceptional engine," said Kunimori, "but there are many areas that are not yet complete, and it will take some time for us to do customizations."

One thing for sure is that despite some problems encountered developing with a non-in-house engine, development of the game would have gone less smoothly if the game wasn't being developed on Unreal Engine 3.

"We can definitely say this, though. If we hadn't used Unreal Engine 3, the situation would have been even worse. This time, we learned quite a bit, so next time we use Unreal Engine 3, I believe development can go more smoothly," said Kawashima.

Frame City Killer has been on the receiving end of some strong criticism regarding its graphics, which for a next-gen title have so far been seen to be very uninspiring. This is however, one area which will be improved.

"This is an area where, the more time you take, the better it will become," said Kawashima. "Of course, our graphics lead is having to work hard."

It's not just the visuals that are going to receive attention, with more content planned to be added to the game. The game's story is set, but new side missions may be added, time permitting. Kunimori also discussed the possibility of online functionality. It won't be online multiplayer though, but a way for players to exchange data.

The game is still without a firm release date, but Kawashima did promise that an announcement will be made shortly.
