This is meant to be where I talk about what we played this week, but instead all I've got is a story about how I didn't play FIFA 12 because our ad man Andy Spenceley decided getting a free pair of shoes was more important than the happiness of the entire office!

Right, so we'd agreed to play FIFA at lunch. It was set in stone - the kind of arrangement you can't break. Lunch rolled round, I nipped out to buy a chicken wrap, headed back, sat in the gaming room and waited. Spenceley had decided he had to use a deal through his phone provider to nab a free pair of summer shoes - things weren't looking good for FIFA at lunch, or FIFAAL as I will now call it.

He'd be right back for FIFAAL, or so he believed. 45 minutes later, at 1:50 pm, he returns, crap-looking 50p shoes in one hand. He wants to start FIFAAL now but even a 5-minute game would take too long. I sit slumped in my chair, once again disappointed that Andy 'Smiler' Spenceley decided to put his happiness above my own. The FIFAAL dream is over.

Yay! Regular readers of this weekly featurette are no doubt delighted to see me go back to Skyrim. Blame Dawnguard, if you must - it put me back on the mountain path, and Shadowmere and I are happy to climb it near-vertically. I'm actually heading back onto the main questline now, having exhausted the four main factions, and I figure it's finally time to knock off Alduin.

It really is a wonderful game, and while I am sympathetic to those who've had their experiences tarnished by nasty bugs I have (touch wood) managed to get by pretty scot free. I've certainly had a less painful experience than with Oblivion, which routinely forced me to flush my Xbox 360 cache for some reason that I never quite understood.

One thing that struck me this week is that many are quick to criticise Bethesda for its storytelling. While I wouldn't say plot and character have ever been Bethesda's strongest areas, there's plenty of rich ambient narrative here for those willing to find it. For instance, I am particularly fascinated by the relationship between the daedric princes and mortals and how such a religious, supernatural world seems unnaturally devoid of any nice deities. Basically, nothing good ever seems to happen to anyone in Skyrim.

I've been desperately trying to get back into Battlefield 3 this week, eagerly looking for reasons to justify shelling out nigh on £40 for its DLC. But every time I try, I'm put off by the unbalanced carnage provoked by the arrival of private servers.

300% tickets? Snipers only? What is this - a late 90s PC shooter? But, to the game's detriment, that's exactly how Battlefield 3 feels at the moment - a disappointing reality to someone who just wants to play a 'normal' game of Rush.

EA, give me back some official servers and maybe then I'll think about laying down the cash for Premium.

Well I've been playing a whole bunch of Dragon's Dogma and even more Mass Effect 3, mainly the campaign again.

I was thinking of seeing the new endings from my previous save but I thought I'd start the game again and try another character class. I also thought I'd put the difficulty up a bit too. Thankfully, since I've been playing a poop-tonne of multiplayer, my galaxy readiness is pretty much stuck at 100%

I'm still loving me some Dragon's Dogma :) Now lvl 56 and halfway through my Mystic Knight vocation. I'm currently rushing my way through the campaign quests as my next big game is just around the corner...Darksiders 2.

Lego Batman 2 this week, got all the gold bricks and felt that the final character was a bit of a cop-out, now to try every minikit vehicle out for full achievement completion. The only other game I managed that with was ODST.

To be fair, Dave's problem with BF3 has absolutely nothing to do with the Premium charge. It's down to the fact EA closed all their official severs a few weeks before Premium was launched, and the community doesn't like making servers with 100% tickets.

Currently extremely occupied with thesis editing, but I have finally started Iron Man. I agree with Tom's review in general, and while it is a little clunky, many of the ideas and mechanics have an interesting implementation. If only the flying were a little easier to handle, and the worlds, although sizeable enough, were a little more fun to navigate. Still, for what it is, I am enjoying it. Even if B button mashing is a little prevalent... :p

Ratchet and Clank HD Collection. I. LOVE. THOSE. GAMES. Played them to death years ago and I'm happy to play through them again. Can't wait for Ratchet Deadlocked/Gladiator to hit the PSN Store!

Lego Batman 2. Just need to get the last 70 Gold Bricks and then get the character behind the 250 Brick door to get 100% and all achievements!

Not been playing much of Star Wars The Old Republic while I play those other two games but I've been doing the Corellia/Ilum/Belsavis Dailies to gather cash for my Windram Legacy. :D

Aaand a nice relaxing time on Minecraft. A friend has given me control of the server so I've got to open it up whenever my friends want in.

finally completed max payne 3 yesterday and i must say that despite it being quite repetitive with the running and gunning it was an absolute great game, the graphics the story everything was what i wanted for it. going to start it on hardest difficulty now.

Just moved house/started a new job and don't have a TV here yet. So, my gaming has been slim and on the Vita.

Put a few good hours into Wipeout 2048. It's a great game, great visuals and great sound. It's just a shame that as the speed increases to Sub-Phantom and beyond the game/hardware starts to creak a bit. The frame rate skips a fair amount and makes the game a little less enjoyable. This is even more noticeable on the Wipeout HD DLC.

Hoping to pick up MGS HD on Vita very soon and can't wait to get a TV sorted (and a wage finally coming in again) because I STILL haven't played Max Payne 3! Rockstar fanboy fail. I guess the upside is that I'll be able to pick it up at a cheaper price when I finally get paid :P

I agree on Battlefield 3 but I only splashed on a tenner on DLC, but if I paid 40 for it I would have felt robbed.

I have been playing The Darkness 2 which I really liked, Mass Effect 3 briefly for the new ending (I chose the new one) and Halo 1. Started playing Lollipop Chainsaw which won't take too long to do and Tentacle on my phone now and again.

Apparently EA are so happy with the way Premium worked out for Battlefield 3 that they're going to apply it to other titles in their stable. It won't be long until all you can do is create a player in FIFA and then can't do anything else without committing to a £49.99 recurring annual subscription.

I never thought I'd see the day that Oblivion's Horse Armor started to look like a bargain, it's quite surprising how DLC has started to drive the industry with games themselves starting to become almost secondary considerations.

Speaking of which I'm also into Skyrim again. It wasn't really the Dawnguard expansion that made me restart, it was the patch just before it that, hopefully, will let me complete everything I want to do in that world. It meant starting from scratch again, but as with most RPGs the fun is in the journey so I don't really mind. Just as long as I don't have to do it a third time because familiarity breeds contempt.

Also nabbed Dirt 3 Complete edition from Zavvi, not really impressed with the game itself as it's just a box-standard rally racing game like any other, just with flashier menus.

Finished Ghost Recon which while had some good elements was a flat really. This in turn has soured my gaming.
So I sit in front of my xbox and think "what the ***** do I play?" Which lead me to try The Maw which was a nice little game and a easy 200 points.
Also thought this gaming low would mean I might want to finish some of the games a already had so every now and then I play Grid to get my last achievement. Only lasts about an hour a night.

@Dave I'd need to check but if we still have a server I can change it over to some games of rush one night. I think atm its down as conquest but I'm not sure about the tickets.
