Microsoft has announced it has secured a twelve-month Xbox 360 exclusive period for both FIFA 07 and Pro Evolution Soccer 6. This applies to next-gen consoles only, though, so both titles will be available on current-gen platforms.

This is pretty massive news for Microsoft, and is essentially forcing gamers who want to play a next-gen football title during the course of the next year to buy an Xbox 360. FIFA 07 was officially announced for the Xbox 360 today, and Pro Evolution Soccer 6 is at the Games Convention where it's being shown off running on the Xbox 360 for the fist time. Both titles are expected to arrive later this year.

im gutted...i played pro evo 5 day and night on xbox live...i waited a year for this game, i sold my xbox so i could play pes6 on the 360...i went into tesco 24hr and bought the game at like 11:30pm on thursday just so i could get it early...when i put it in i noticed quite a few of the options available on the year old current-gen pes5 are missing completely...no more team creation (its hard being a Gillingham fan)...team names have mysteriously disappeared (chelsea etc.) and others tacked on to really make the non licenced teams really stand out...when i started my 1st game the gameplay has lost a lot since last year too...the game seems like more of a chore than a pleasure with what seems like both defending and attacking made harder than last year...i tried everything the game has to offer and im ashamed to say i played it for two days and had to take it back...i realise its a sin in the gaming community but i actually traded a copy of pes6 for fifa 07...i played the demo and i thought it was pretty good but thought the new pro evo would blow it out of the water...when i was wrong i got the game that actually deserve my money because you can really see where your money is going...can you really say pes6 is worth £40.00-£50.00 when its really a stripped down shinier port of a ps2 game? im gutted

You read it correctly; the X360 version is a cut-rate port of the PS2 version except half the size. For diehard pesfans this has come as a complete shock and certain individuals have taken it so hard they have needed counselling sessions.

What!!!? I hear you cry what on earth can be so bad about pes on a next-gen console. I can answer that in a few simple lines of text and real pes players will know how bad this news is:

• There are only a total of 8 stadiums compared to 30+ in pes5
• There are no complete editing options only player stats can be modified, this means no scalability; no transfers, no shirt names, no kits and boots, no create
• There are no options to save any replays unlike in pes5

Is it just me or is this new incarnation of pes one step forward in terms of graphical specification and two whole steps back in terms of player control[?]

Konami, I am hugely disappointed that you have dissuaded me both from purchasing a 360 and continuing to enjoy this great football game series. A half finished product in my view and not one worth the asking price.

Yours disgruntled,

pesfan

It dont affect me anyway cus im not gonna get a ps3 4 a year anyway and i dont loads of peple will cus £410!! is a huge amount 4 a games console and although im a playstation fan y pay 410 quid for somet similar for less. microsoft r defiently takin advantage of a big mistake by sony i only hope da ps3 is a hell of a lot beta than the 360

i doubt here was that much of a deal aswell pro evo and fifa come out between september and october and the ps3 comes out in november ...with not enough time to develop the game compared to the 360 which has been out for a year means it is a obvious choice to have only the 360 version. very good news for microsoft though proving that the early onslaught on sony from the xbox 360 release date is paying off

according to www.evo-web.co.uk

Microsoft announced yesterday that only Xbox 360 will have next generation PES until next year. The current generation formats are unaffected for the October release.

The same is true for FIFA 07.

UPDATE: There isn't an exclusivity deal between any of the companies, it's just Microsoft's marketing spin on the situation as was happening anyway.

UPDATE 2 by Kezz: According to Konami Germany, there's no deal with Microsoft at all. Obviously there were no plans for a PS3 version of PES 6 anyway, as the PS3 is slated to launch in winter while PES traditionally comes out in autumn. So PES 7 was always meant to be the first PES making an appearance on Sony's PS3, irrespective of what Microsoft is telling us here. Nice try, though.

Being able to play AWESOME Soccer games like these in High-Definition with 5.1 Digital sound is INCREDIBLE!!! The Xbox 360 is BY FAR the best place for Soccer.

This must really be bad if you are a Playstation 3 fan who likes Soccer, since there will be ABSOLUTELY NO Soccer game for over a year!!!
