Far Cry 3, Ubisoft's upcoming FPS sequel, will receive a multiplayer beta on Xbox 360 and PS3, the publisher has revealed. No firm date has been set, but the online test is due to start this summer.

Over a two-week period gamers will be able to take part in 16-player online matches, use six classes, test out numerous game modes and sample a collection of maps.

Currently you can register for the beta on the game's Facebook page (500 places available) or buy a copy of Ghost Recon Future Soldier (in the US). More beta places will be available through other schemes.

Far Cry 3 is due for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on September 7.

This is good, the multiplayer looks really good, a lot better than the last Far Cry. From the video they released the other week, it looks more like COD4 than anything else. Which is good because COD has arguably gone in the wrong direction.

Not entirely bothered about trying the beta out to be honest. Far Cry 2 multiplayer wasn't exactly great on the PS3 when I got the game.
