Top 10: Ideas that will make Far Cry 3 a masterpiece
We love Far Cry 2, but we reckon Far Cry 3 could be even better.
Far Cry 2 is undoubtedly a brilliant game. It's got wonderful graphics, an engaging storyline, impressive tech and mind-blowing open world goodness. So good is it, that we gave Ubisoft Montreal's FPS a whopping 9/10 in our review. But it's not perfect. Cue our Top 10: Ideas that will make Far Cry 3 a masterpiece, where we detail our ideas for the inevitable sequel. Ubisoft's already made mention that it's in the "preliminary stages", and that the Africa setting still has a "huge amount of promise", so, let the fun begin!
10. Savage beasts!

The animals in Far Cry 2 are brilliant. We've driven off the beaten track on more than one occasion just to ride alongside a pack of zebra. But the animals in Far Cry 2 are not dangerous. They're all passive. Assuming Far Cry 3 is also set in Africa, we'd like to see some aggressive animals thrown into the mix. How about lions and tigers and bears... oh my! (Perhaps not bears). What about having to contend with killer snakes, or spiders? We imagine it might get animal rights activists hot under the collar, but how cool would it be to have to worry about a savage lion eating your face, or a pack of monkeys assaulting your Jeep, as you speed away from a chasing army of soldiers?
9. Improve your ability to kill!

This one is more for the console versions of the game, rather than the PC version, which has much more precise controls with the keyboard and mouse. In the PS3 and 360 versions shooting in the first few hours of the game is very difficult. Much of this is down to the fact that your weapons are woeful, with recoil that makes accurate shooting nigh on impossible and durability that makes them break more often than not. The feeling that it's quite hard is exacerbated by the fact that the enemies are tougher to kill than the Terminator. Sure, head shots do the trick, but anything else feels like chucking flowers at a brick wall. The bad guys take loads of non head shot bullets before they go down, even on the normal difficulty. We'd like your enemy to react a little more realistically in the next Far Cry, and some subtle tweaking to the accuracy of the shooting in the console versions.

1. Destruction (like blow out a wall but it wont destroy house, but if house is small and unstable it destroys it).
2. More vehicles like small planes and helicopters and motorbikes is a good one.
3. Co-op Story Mode
4. Console Multi-player
5. More different looking militia and more normal civilians without guns.
6. Car damage like Grand Theft Auto 4 (maybe not that much damageable but close to it).
7. Biggest map possible.
8. Enemys guns can jam and backfire and they can pick up others if they run out of ammo.
9. Some enemies can perform self surgery but only have one chance.
10. Player and vehicles leave tracks in sand and grass.
11. More particle effects (like when dirt goes flying into the air after an explosion it comes down and hits the ground).
12. Trees can snap and break.
13. Varied explosions depending on size of object destroyed.
14. Sandstorms but only in the desert and the player can get out a blanket to cover themselves or find cover and enemies caught in it will perish.
15. Lightning can strike and start fires.
16. Fuel for cars (like jerry cans at road blocks and on the back of some vehicles and small fuel stations in the towns) but only every now and then when you get a used car. (Not sure if thats a good idea.)
17. Player can use repair tool to take the weapon of the turret of a vehicle and use it as their own.
18. Trees can fall over in strong winds.
19. Wood can burn and rot (breaks when people stand on it).
20. Dead bodies react more.
21. One special safe-house like one behind a waterfall in a cave with its own computer and turret at the window.
22. More animals and carnivorous ones like lions and cheetahs that attack you and other animals and enemies, they should also be able to stalk their prey but you shouldnt be frustrated by the amount of times that they kill you.
23. When it rains there should be puddles on the road and it should become slippery and you can get bogged.
24. Make large storms that happen maybe once a week in the game and flood some of the areas.
25. The militia should be more relaxed like have a few wandering around scouting the area like they do but have the rest sitting down having beers or playing poker.
26. The map is great I mean there are always different things you can do to it and you have to change the map or people wont be happy but I like the African setting it gives more of a sense of freedom than the old islands did.
27. The lighting is amazing as it is, but just to point out the player has no shadow.
28. Not to sound like a freak or anything but I think you should have that when you shoot someone that there is a hole or wound where you shot them and it bleeds but that might be a bit much.
29. You should be able to run faster and when you run down a hill you need to slow yourself and balance and if theres a ditch you can jump it and when you hit the other side you sometimes go down to the ground put your hand on it and start running again you know like running in Mirrors Edge, but it might stuff it up if you have a gun.
30. Have another weapon slot but you cant use it for guns but picking up items like rocks and bottles that you can throw to use as distractions. (use with idea 29)
31. The Malaria makes it realistic but it does get frustrating when you cant even run for tens seconds straight without getting woozy, I mean I can deal with the pill every now and then but its just frustrating with the running.
32. It would be good if there was one fair sized town to have a shoot-out in, with posh areas and dirty ones.
33. Sound should echo in valleys so if theres a shoot-out or explosion you can hear it a fair way away but the further away it is the more it echoes.
34. If theres a serious car crash and it rolls it would be good if the player could be thrown from the car and the same with enemies.
35. When you go to the weapon shops there should be a bomb making kit that you can get so when you go out if you come across the right items you can make different sorts of bombs.
36. Climbing trees and cliffs to ambush people that would be cool.
37. For the sprinting system instead of the malaria just have it that you get puffed after a while.
38. Need more bus depots.
39. Instead of busses have that you can pay a civilian with a car a certain bribe or do some missions for them and you can use them as a taxi.
40. Since it is a rough area you should be able to pay guys to come and help with missions but not as interactive as a buddy.
41. Modify guns in single player.
42. Diamonds shouldnt be the only form of currency there should be cash for small things like bribes and other things.
43. Bullet holes in paraglider wings which makes it harder to steer.
44. The player should be able to shoot from a paraglider or maybe just drop grenades and Molotov cocktails.
45. A tranquilizer gun.
46. Special cars that have cages on the back and you can tranquilize lions and cheetahs and put them in there and let them loose in a town or in the middle of a camp.
47. Dogs that the enemies have and ones that just roam the towns and you can catch them and train them and use them against enemies.
48. If you wound an enemy and they cant move and theyre alone they should be able to get flare guns and signal for help.
49. If an enemy finds a dead guy they bend down and check his pulse.
50. If you could do special executions like kick them and they fall down you step on there arm and kick the gun out of their hand then shoot them.
51. More melee attacks like using the butt of your gun and using your fist and kicking. (Press a button that puts your guns away.)
52. If theres a fire near a camp the enemies use buckets of water to try and put it out.
53. Depending on which character you choose at the start the enemies will call you different names.
54. The enemies can get drunk.
55. A TV in all the safehouses.
56. Little whirly-winds you know small dust tornado things but only chuck a bit of dust around know throwing cars or anything.
57. Depending on the weather it can become harder to fly a paraglider.
58. The cars should have radios.
59. Player and A.I. should be able to shoot and drive like stick one hand out the window and shoot or drop grenades and molotovs.
60. You should be able to cook grenades.
These are all just ideas and I know that some of this stuff would be impossible but the ones you can use please go ahead, if you make a sequel (which I think you should) and if you are well youve probably already started but use some of these in FarCry 4 if you make one Im just throwing ideas around.
Just thought Id mention that I think all the big major gaming companies should all get together and make an ultimate game, even if its just one room but one room where you can do anything really anything.

I totally understand getting attacked when you enter a restricted area or other special zones where you could be interpretted as an intruder, but it seems more logical to me that the AI out in the open environment would be disinterested in you unless you threatened them.
It cracks me up everytime a little economy car pulls up beside me on the road and tries to run me off for no reason and then gets out and starts firing a weapon. What did I ever do to you sir?
I'm looking forward to the "Next-Gen" iteration of this game in 2011/2012 moreso than I am Far Cry 3 which will almost certainly be a current gen game. Atleast then they'll have the horsepower to take destructibility and atmospherics to a new level and possibly even exceed the standard that Crysis set.

Other than that the only thing that pisses me off, as with many modern FPS' is the lack of NON-online multiplayer. I love playign co-op when the person is BESIDE me, not some 10 year old signign into the mic. And i love playing agaisnt bots in classic FPS style with a few of my friends. WHY HAVE THEY KILLED OFF ONE OF THE GREATEST ASPECTS OF FPS'!?

BlackberryJism, I'm glad that you like the game but at what point did I say I had a prior dislike for ubisoft? I got exited and sucked in by the hype just as much as the next person. I went out and bought Far Cry 2 just like you didn't I? It didn't live up to my expectations just like it didn't live up to a LOT of peoples expectations and there are no reviews that reflect that, they are ALL positive!

It's short but a good read.

For instance, if you assign the 'USE' key to anything other than the 'E' key then you can't get off mounted turrets. NPCs are missing or you can't get access to them meaning you're stuck at certain points of the game. Many people crash every 10-20 minutes on modern PCs.
NPCs re-populate camps too fast - there's no immersion to killing a load of people and then returning to the same camp a minute later to find the camp fully populated.
When John Rambo set those awesome traps up in the first movie that took out those hunters...did he turn around after they'd been killed and find them chasing him again 30 seconds later? No, they stayed dead! Did he have to shoot men 7-8 times at point blank range just to get them to die?
If this game is so non-linear, why is there only one way to play it that's fun?
My real gripe is that many of the magazines and websites failed to warn us of all these things and instead tell us how totally awesome the game is when it's clearly a fairly OK console game and a way below average PC FPS.
Once again, I'm glad you liked it but check out the reviews on amazon from other users: (If you can't be bothered, at least look at the average score from 92 reviews, hint: it's awful, 64 people have given it a '1')

I've seen so much hype and such good reviews everywhere for this game and it turns out to be rubbish for a LOT of people and yet it seems that anyone reviewing it is giving it top marks! I honestly don't understand it unless ubisoft have told them they HAVE to give it good marks unless they won't get access to future releases, which ubisoft are well known to do.
We all rely on magazines and websites such as this to tell us if games are worth paying for but if they're forced to give good reviews then we, the general public are being cheated out of our cash.
