Fallout 3: Broken Steel Features for Xbox 360

Regular readers might have heard Wesley mention his "ball and chain", or his "better half". My real name is Alexia, and I'm Wesley's girlfriend of 10 years. During that time, I've participated in (more forced to tolerate) his hobby. I rarely play games myself; I'm more the back seat gamer. So, when Wesley talked me through VideoGamer.com's Top 100 games of the Noughties, I disagreed with some of the choices. I thought the site missed some real treasures, games that had me on the edge of the bed, games I begged Wesley to play and games that were so much fun I even picked up a controller and had a go. So, as a hardcore gamer's girlfriend, here's my alternative Top Ten games of the Noughties list.

10. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, PS3

My top ten begins with Wesley's 2009 Christmas present. The graphics are fantastic and the opening scene of a very sexy man covered in blood captivated me – I was hooked from that moment to the very end. Nathan Drake is the sexiest video game character of the decade. He is the Mr Darcy of the video game world. He's like Spider-Man, but without the silly costume. He is an absolute dream and best of all, he has amazing facial hair. For all of these reasons, Uncharted 2 is my number ten. Normally Wesley plays games and I just sit and watch him. There was a moment with Uncharted 2, however, when I solved one of the numerous puzzles while he nipped off to the loo - but not after he had me given me some words of wisdom. "It's okay, there are no baddies in this bit. You can't die." He obviously has a lot of faith in my shooting abilities.

9. Professor Layton and the Curious Village, Nintendo DS

You will have read from Wesley's review that I loved this game. I enjoyed solving the puzzles and when I did get stuck, I passed over to Wesley for help. We spent many an hour curled up on the bed getting stuck in to completing the quests and being told we were right by Professor Layton or one of the many characters who tested us throughout the game. It had a strange resemblance to Tin Tin; all that was missing was his dog to help along the way. The sketched graphics fit the feel of the game and even though it seemed sinister, you always felt safe. This is probably why I rarely needed Wesley's help. I could also just pick it up and play whenever I wanted - it didn't matter if I completed the game or not, the puzzles were the real fun.

Congrats! Very interesting choices.

Thanks for giving kudos to Drake and Prof Layton!

I also must say I love your choice of Halo 2. I know it gets slack, however, I personally loved the expansion of the story.

Hogs...well...nobodies perfect!

We tend to do alternate nights - Luckily my wife is addicted to Soaps and Facebook so she is quite happy if we have an evening to ourselves a couple of times each week.

Mine is normally once a week I have a late night, Our normal night is getting in from work, I'll cook and we'll watch TV and have tea, then I'll wash up and she'll have a shower then in bed by 9. I suffer from to much sleep so i need on night just to even my body out.

I never expect my wife to have to put up with me sat there, playing games all evening, when we haven't seen each other all day because I'm at work.

We usually watch some TV after putting the kids to bed and then I might sometimes play for an hour or two latter in the evening. I also need my beauty sleep, so I rarely play beyond 12am.

Nice list, completely forgot about so many games over the last ten years. Hogs of War was fun but Worms 2 was better.

My other half still lets me play late, last week I played from 7pm till gone 3am, but I expect to be using the same trick as guyderman when my little one arrives in May

I also have to sneak in game sessions whenever I can.

I've got my third on the way, due in March. I might see you online for some 4am gaming

Try keeping a wife and three kids while trying to get as much gaming in as possible! I have to sneak gaming sessions now - Baby wakes for feed at 4am - wife thinks I'm the greatest for doing that feed and letting her sleep - Half hour to feed the little 'un and then he's back to sleep - commence gaming from 4:30am untill 7:30 when it's time to get ready for work!

MY GOD I'M TIRED!

My wife can't stand video games, so I find it quite amazing when guys play for days on end and still keep some sort of relationship with a woman.

Saying that, my wife always gets me a game(s) for Christmas and has bought me a few consoles over the years, so I can't complain too much.

Back on topic though. I like the idea of having an alternative outside view from non-VG staff. More of these please.

EDIT: In my experience no spouse likes their other half playing street fighter lol

That is so true. I hate Wesley playing Street Fighter, WoW and PES.

Street Fighter gets him mad so he is angry all night, he actually has Mr Potatoe Head's angry eyes on during this game.

When Wez played WoW I never saw him; he went to bed as I got up for work. Can't believe he played for 8 months solid and kept a girlfriend.

And PES has the most ridiculous commentary ever especially when they go for headers and they always repeat and they are going for the aerial challenge - feels like there are only 4 lines ever said in PES - argghhhh - drives me insane.

It's a much nicer welcome to the site to have a pretty girl giving the cheeky eye than a bearded man scowling in a black and white photo.

Interesting take on the game of the decade genre.
