Codemasters is confident that F1 2013 will be able to "hold its own" against Grand Theft Auto 5, despite the two launching within touching distance of one another.

"Obviously we're coming out in a really busy window," F1 2013's game designer Greg Prysmachuk told VideoGamer.com during the game's reveal event. "There's FIFA, there's GTA 5...

"I don't think that's going to have too much impact on the fact that we have a really strong core fan base. We've got a very unique title that nobody else produces, or [that they can] do."

Car handling designer Lee Mather describes GTA 5's imminent release as "the giant elephant in the room".

"Obviously Grand Theft Auto is going to impact everybody, isn't it?" continues Prysmachuk. "There's nothing that game's not going to have an impact on, but I think F1's still going to hold its own, definitely."

Prysmachuk believes that the new content featured in this year's version – which includes the introduction of classic cars and drivers - will entice fans back who may have skipped one of the previous updates.

"I think with this game, it doesn't just seem like a yearly update because we've got the classic content," he adds. "It sort of seems like the one that you will update for. We talk to a lot of people, and the last one they bought was F1 2010 or F1 2011 and they skip iterations between, but hopefully this one should draw those people back."

F1 2013 launches this September on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, with GTA 5 releasing on September 17.

Funny how Codemasters (and the writer of this review) say they listen to the fans. I don't feel they do.

F1 Series is a good racing game for Formula 1 fans (and not much more car games fans) with very big flaws that get repeated every single occurrence.

The first complain I have is the sales model: Selling every year practically the same game with some bug fixes sold as new stuff is simply stealing. That's why I haven't bought 2011 and 2012 versions.

I would be OK with paying for yearly updates, but I can't fell fine with myself if I pay 60€ just to get the same year after year.

And watching at the F1 2013 footage I'm getting the feeling I will skip once more this issue.

Maybe many people is looking forward this classic content. But that's not me.

I would very much preffer a fix for all the open issues with the game experience:

* Erratic IA that is many times unpredictable, in the bad way.
* Weird tires behaviour on different weather. For example changing used intermediate tires on a rainy race for new wet ones and feeling the car totally undrivable, like if they were soft dry tires.
* Poor out-of-the race experience. No podium, interviews eliminated. Latest carrear mode has become just about driving races... no nothing else. Get's old very quickly.
* Cooperative Championship (as I checked in a borrowed copy of F1 2012) it's just a multiplayer with poor saving. Not very fun, not engaging at all.
* We want to share our racing skills. We want to brag. I want to save videos, share them. Something like the game recordings that Halo 3 had would be perfect. Being able to review multiplayer races with friends would be simply awesome!
* Some Ligue support for full championships with friends. A board to publish results, comment, videos, pictures... those are improvements and thinking out of the box... not the same over and over again...

This is what we want. Not the same game over and over again.

I think GTA 5 will have a negative effect on any game releasing in September. GTA has a very broad demographic. To what extent will GTA effect the games released in September is uncertain. However I wouldn't be surprised if it was noticeable.

Do we know GTA5 *doesn't* feature formula one racing? It seems to have most other things...! :p

Are they even competing? The fact is that the fans/demographic who want an F1 driving simulator will buy F1 2013. The only pitfall for codemasters is that GTA5 is a vacuum which gamers will get sucked into. But I still think it's impact on this title would be minimal.
