A look ahead to Friday's new releases.
Welcome to Heads-up, our weekly feature which gives you an at-a-glance run-down on the games you'll be able to buy or rent this weekend. Every Monday we'll pick out the best of the bunch, link to our reviews and previews and keep you in the video game loop so you have enough time to pre-order for Friday's post. Time to splash the cash.
While these two couldn't be more different games, they both represent the very best of their respective genres. Gears of War 3 might be more of the same, but if you like what Epic has delivered before then you're going to be in for a treat. If you thought the Xbox 360 was running out of juice you might also want to see what Epic has managed to squeeze out of the ageing console. F1 2011 is essentially a more refined version of last year's game, complete with what fans wanted: the Safety Car. There's also online co-op if you want to get into the dirty business of team tactics.
And the rest...
A Game of Thrones has had a popularity boost in recent months thanks to the hit US TV show, so the PC strategy game based on the novel should do reasonably well at retail, even if we have no idea if it's any good or not. Supremacy MMA looked a little ropey last time we saw it, but could still provide a viable alternative to THQ's UFC and EA's MMA games.
