Capcom has slashed its sales projections for DmC: Devil May Cry by 40 per cent.

The publisher initially expected Ninja Theory's reboot to sell 2 million units by March 31, 2013. However, during its third quarter financial results last night, Capcom advised that it had revised the game's sales projections to just 1.2m.

DmC hit the UK number one spot when it launched almost three weeks ago, but has failed to maintain momentum since, falling to the number 11 spot in this week's chart update.

Initial shipments for the game reached 1m units during January 2013, but official sales figures for the game have yet to be revealed.

Ninja Theory's reboot of DmC angered fans on its initial reveal, mainly for the changes made to lead character Dante. However, the game was regarded by most critics as a success, earning an average score of 85 on Metacritic.

And DmC isn't the only game Capcom has had to revise its sales estimates for. The publisher announced last night that Resident Evil 6 had sold 2m fewer units than it had initially expected.
