The Devil May Cry HD Collection, featuring high definition versions of the first three games in the hit action series, will be released in early 2012 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Capcom has announced.

Each game will sport high definition visuals with updated textures, widescreen support, and Trophies/Achievements.

Devil May Cry debuted in 2001 and set a new benchmark in the action genre. This was followed by Devil May Cry 2 in 2003 and three years later by Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening Special Edition.

Check the screens gallery for a look at how much the games have been improved.

Hmm, I might pick this up once I've cleared a whole bunch of other games on my 'to do' list. I'll probably skip DMC2 though, as it was a bit pants in comparison to DMC 1 and 3.

I'm not sure if re-releasing a HD mix-up of the DMC series is a good idea though, as Ninja Theory's 're-imagining' of the franchise is out next year, and there's already a lot of complainers about the new look. If anything, the DMC license might need to encourage a new audience and this HD introduction into the game series won't help when gamers see the disparity between the old-school Dante and the new, 'Trainspotting-emo' Dante. I for one am curious to see what Ninja Theory can do with the license, but this will just get the DMC fan-boys all upset when they compare the classic Dante with the new.

Damn it, screw DMC, I want a HD 'Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver' collection (including the original Legacy of Kain game I never got to play!). No, actually I want a HD 'Panzer Dragoon' collection, nope, I want...

...a holiday and a hot bath

Dislike the DMC series. May give the new DMC a punt, but this edition won't be getting bought.
