There is plenty of room to build a new series of Deus Ex games which follow the upcoming Deus Ex: Human Revolution, without interfering with the original two games, Eidos Montreal has told Edge magazine.

Asked about the idea of sequels, and the possibility of having to retell the existing story, game director Jean-Francois Dugas, said: "It's natural to come to the idea of a remake, but our game takes place in 2027 - that's like 25 years before the first game. So it leaves us enough room to build a new series."

Art director Jonathan Jacques-Belletete added: "If you look at the history depicted in the franchise, you realise there are many great moments that have yet to be exploited.

"Reading Deus Ex's in-game writing, you find a huge amount of background. When you get into the 2030s, you could make many games exploiting all the events happening in that period. You have the secession of states, a huge earthquake, a massive financial crash, Mexico regaining control over the southern states of the US. There's so much material to exploit.

"This doesn't mean we are going to use these elements, but I just want to point out that there's no problem building a new series inside the franchise without touching those two existing games."

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is scheduled for release in early 2011. Analysis

No doubt Square Enix hopes Human Revolution will be the start of a successful new game series, and it will be pleasing to the franchise's loyal following that Eidos Montreal has no intention of interfering with the games which started it.
