UK Video Game Chart: Splinter Cell has conviction

A second week at the top for Ubisoft's spy action game.

GfK ChartTrack reports that Ubisoft's Splinter Cell: Conviction has held on at the top of the All Formats All Prices video game chart.

Sales of the spy thriller are down 46 per cent, but still managed to hold off the ever present Just Dance (down 31 per cent).

Rockstar's GTA: Episodes from Liberty City sticks at No.3, Nintendo's Wii Fit Plus is up to No.4 and Capcom's Monster Hunter Tri is a new entry at No.5. Tri becomes the most successful version of this franchise so far in terms of launch sales and chart position.

The only other new entry is Namco Bandai's Dead to Rights: Retribution, which failed to make much of an impression at No.22.

Friday is another big week for releases, with both Super Street Fighter IV and EA's FIFA World Cup video game competing for your pennies. Also arriving in stores are Iron Man 2 and the God of War Collection.

It is the first SC I've felt compelled to play through to the very finish - a fantastic title, and I'm glad it is selling so well. More devs should take time, patience and care to make their titles just right.

Yeah Conviction deserves it but it was a bit too short mind. The ops part is awesome though.

I thought they'd always managed to sell alright even though they were quite hard. This is only the second SP game I've played, the first being the first in the series. The more action based approach appealed to me so they got a new customer in that way, but I wish there was more forced stealth as the action parts of Conviction aren't great.

and you're right, they've obviously managed to make it accessible to more than one audience.
