EA and Visceral Games' Dead Space 2 has entered the All Formats All Prices UK video game chart at No.1, pushing LittleBigPlanet 2 down a place to No.2.

Dead Space 2 achieved a 70 per cent increase in launch week sales compared to the first game in the franchise, which debuted at No.6 on its launch towards the back end of 2008.

Dead Space 2 on Xbox 360 was the week's biggest-selling single SKU, placing above LittleBigPlanet 2 at No.2 and Dead Space 2 on PS3 and No.3.

Elsewhere, Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood sneaks back up the chart to No.4 - an 18 per cent boost in sales thanks to aggressive pricing by retailers. Black Ops at No.5 also gets a week-on-week boost, with sales up 11 per cent.

VideoGamer.com Analysis

Dead Space 2 appears to have repaid EA's faith in the franchise, achieving a massive increase in first week sales when compared to the first game.

It's interesting to see the Xbox 360 version of Dead Space 2 outselling the PS3 edition, despite a marketing push which focussed entirely on the PS3 game and its bundled copy of Dead Space: Extraction. However, the presence of Sony's LittleBigPlanet 2 has surely eaten into some of Dead Space 2's potential audience - no such competition currently exists on Xbox 360.

Next week sees the release of Mario Sports Mix on Wii and Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem on Nintendo DS. We don't expect either title to challenge for the top positions, but places inside the Top 10 and Top 20, respectively, wouldn't be a shock.

Glad to see EA's risk of pushing new IP's is starting to pay off, which in the long run hopefully will lead to even more new and interesting games.

I'm still waiting for my PS3 version to arrive as I don't have a good light gun Move game yet.

NO way this title has the momentum to hold the top slot for more than a week.

Glad the sales are up, but I just hope this doesn't give EA the idea of milking the franchise now...

Nice to see Brotherhood still in the Top Ten! Having finally given the multiplayer mode a try, I can see why it is being deemed a success.
