Launched last week to a string of positive reviews, Dead Space 2 shipments are nearing two million units, EA said during an overnight investor call.

John Schappert, chief operating officer said: "Last week, we released Dead Space 2 from our Visceral Studio. The game launched with a 91 rating, and is approaching 2 million units sold in, with double the sell-through of the original Dead Space."

Dead Space 2 is out now for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Despite only earning modest sales, the first Dead Space obviously showed EA enough to warrant a sequel and the publisher's faith in the franchise appears to have paid off.

Your Mom hates Battlefield 3 "LOOK AT THAT NOOB!!! He's a medic and he's not even healing! He's killed the entire team!"

I really hope this wasn't because of the "Your mom hates Dead Space 2" ad campaign. Even if it wasn't, the ad execs will be all liek "yehh bro! let's make a thing out of this. I want it everywhere yo!"

Next up: Your Mom Hates Mirror's Edge 2 "Look at that brat, just running around the place making a scene. She'll knock someone over if she's not careful".

Good stuff, goes to show that the originality of the first game really helped the sequel to shift units.
