Dead Island: Riptide will be an all new game, not a reworked version of the first game, publisher Deep Silver has confirmed.

The game's listing at retailers with a lower than expected price of $49.99 had led to speculation that Riptide was a reworked version of the original game, similar to Capcom's Dead Rising 2: Off The Record.

However, this isn't the case.

"It is a new game. Not a remake," Tweeted Deep Silver's Aubrey Norris.

"That's the real price!" she added. "It's the end of a console cycle- we think this price makes a lot more sense given that :)"

A full announcement is set for later this summer. Analysis

Given Norris is talking about the end of a console cycle we can assume Dead Island: Riptide will hit stores in 2013, presumably the same year new systems from Sony and Microsoft hit stores.

I'm so glad there making another game disappointed its not going to be on next gen but at least we will get it sooner, could be the last game I buy for the 360 maybe. Hope they sticks to the original format too n doesn't turn into a shooter like left 4 dead or cod zombies, I am surprised they are doing another dead ISLAND though they already done an island I don't see we're they could go from there without it feeling like exactly the same game wit new dlc, Look forward to seeing more on this and find out we're its going, the title riptide suggests Australia possible and there is 8,222 islands in Australian waters so plenty of destinations from Tasmania been the biggest at 68,332 square km to mornington island at 1,002 square km or they will prob just go with a fictional island again, would be strange basing it in a country were they can't play the game cos the first got banned didn't it at first. Wotever they do I would like to see it been 100% open so I can free roam the entire island without the different area transitions.

Dead Island was a game I had absolutely no interest in playing as I really thought it was going to be a shower of Sh!t - 'til I borrowed it off Dav and was blown away by it - thoroughly enjoyed the game! Look forward to seeing more on this!

If you're reduced to GAF no wonder you're miserable...

Allow me to loudly and vocally support Deep Silver in their endeavours. Dead Island met with mixed reception from critics, which is increasingly the case when a game doesn't slot neatly into one of the pre-labelled genres, but sold really well. Setting a slightly lower price-point on the new game allows them a little more flexibility in sticking to their guns, and will hopefully allow them to give us the game that Dead Island so nearly was.

Oh Clockpunk, you shouldn't take life so seriously, or at least not my light hearted comments.

Perish the thought - one should never purchase blindly - do not be so pedantic as to misattribute such praise. Read up, and decide on a case by case basis. Did I suggest I'd blindly buy every Deep Silver title, dav? No I did not. Just because I like most of their recent output does not mean I like *all* of it. Important distinction.

I could do that in real-life. Jump onto a lawnmower though and take down some chav's. Chav's are the modern day zombies right...?

You can quick burst on Dead Island, nip on for 10 minutes and mow down zombies in your 4X4... it's a very relaxing way to pass the time.

Man I need to get some more playtime on Dead Island but my attention span to play open world games is very short nowadays. Quick burst games is what is keeping me going to be honest.

I hope you are not going against your own advice of "I think it is important to separate the product from the maker".

I really enjoyed Dead Island... and Deep Silver really on on a roll at the moment (just come on with the Ride to Hell re-announcement!) - I think they are my second fav dev. team right now.

Besides, as I have said numerous times, DR2:OTR really is worth the price of a repurchase - so much added fun. Nothing wrong with that style of re-imagining *if* it adds enough to merit the price.
