Publisher Deep Silver has denied that a sequel to surprise zombie hit Dead Island is currently in production, but there remains chatter that original developer Techland is being replaced.

IGN Germany heard from a reliable source that Yager, the Berlin team behind SpecOps: The Line, was being lined-up for Dead Island 2.

GamesIndustry International later contacted Deep Silver and confirmed that talks were underway regarding the sequel, with other sources suggesting other studios were part of these discussions.

Deep Silver development director Guido Eickmeyer then contacted IGN to deny the original report, but added that there is a "legitimate chance" that Yager may be used again, "and I would not even exclude the possibility that this could be something within the Dead Island franchise."

He added: "We have neither something in place or in discussion between the parties that would explain such a news, nor do we have Dead Island 2 in concept or production with external partners." Analysis

Dead Island was a mixed bag, but its debut trailer sure was good.

Agreed - there were a good few areas it could be improved in, but overall, it was a very fun title. I would have liked to see a greater variety of weaponry, and a means of carrying health-reestoring energy drinks/apples/snack bars, but the semi-open world layout was done well.

How strange i always go back to dead island from time to time, i'm actually playing right this second!
I really really hope we get a sequel for dead island. I know the game had its faults here and there but i don't think it was all that bad, some people gave it quite bad reviews but all i can say is i bought it and once the patch was sent out i really enjoyed it. I finished the main story a while ago and every time i go back i still manage to have a lot of fun with it. And isn't that what gaming is mostly about? having FUN!
So, yeah, Fingers crossed for a more polished bug free sequel.
