EA has announced that Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars is coming to the Xbox 360.
Previously announced only for the PC, C&C 3 is the long awaited sequel in the massively successful real-time strategy series. EA is promising an intuitive console-specific control scheme, fast-action strategy gameplay, a deep single player campaign, and an immersive multiplayer experience. The game is being developed by EALA, the team responsible for the impressive Xbox 360 port of The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II.
"The Command & Conquer series finally makes its return to the console after seven years," said Mike Verdu, Executive Producer at EALA. "C&C 3 will help expand the RTS genre on the Xbox 360, building off of the foundation laid by the development of The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II. EA is evolving the console controls so that strategy gaming plays and feels native to the platform."
The game is set in the year 2047 and Tiberium - a self-replicating alien substance that has infected the Earth - is spreading like a radioactive ice age. The Global Defense Initiative is fighting to contain Tiberium, but Kane, the megalomaniacal leader of The Brotherhood of Nod has other plans for Earth.
EA says that C&C 3 will be one of the most robust titles on Xbox Live and will deliver a steady stream of downloadable content on Marketplace. A dashboard theme featuring art from the development team will be available on Xbox Live Marketplace soon.
The game will ship worldwide in 2007 for Xbox 360 and PC.

I think everyone guessed this was going to happen as soon as EA invested so much time with BFME2 in mapping RTS controls to a controller in a workable fashion.
Good news, though. The whole genre seems to be on the wane and the growing console market can only help it.

I don't rate the C&C series much myself - even after all this time the AI *still* has problems with getting stuck and just freezing in a long game. The AI hasn't changed much at all in the last 10 years!
Luckily multiplayer does give it some credability

So much to say on the matter but, being stuck in the office, so little time to say it. The game will bomb. Being developed by EA is the first warning. Very few, if any, Westwood staff work for them any more. Cut to the chase, it will be half-decent on PC but butchered on the 360. Plus, EA will probably charge you for certain units over live. When you've paid £49.99 for a game, the last thing you want to do is buy access to a mammoth tank for another £4. I used to believe EA were a necessary evil - now I just think they're twa...
