Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 sold more - based on value rather than volume - than any other item in Sainbury's stores during the game's launch week.

This means the blockbuster shooter generated more money than typical weekly favourites milk, bananas and chicken breasts.

Similarly Sainsbury's hopes top shift a whopping 420,000 units of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2.

It's not just Sainsbury's pushing video game sales, with Tesco launching a new television campaign promoting the availability of Modern Warfare 3 in its stores.
