Call of Duty to see "meaningful innovation" this year.
Call of Duty: Elite will also get new bells and whistles.
This year's Call of Duty game - could it be Call of Duty: Black Ops 2? - will see "meaningful innovation" for the well-worn FPS juggernaut, Activision has said, alongside a revamped and refreshed Call of Duty: Elite 2.0.
Speaking during an Activision investor call yesterday, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg surprised nobody by saying there will definitely be a new Call of Duty in 2012.
"This year, we expect to further expand our presence with the launch of an all-new epic first-person shooter title under the Call of Duty brand," said Hirshberg.
"From what we've seen the game already looks fantastic and will bring meaningful innovation to the franchise. I could not be more excited." He wouldn't say what's it called, but he's probably seen it. I wonder what his K/D ratio is?
Hirshberg also confirmed that Activision intends to keep its "foot on the gas" with Call of Duty: Elite.
"We're already hard at work on Elite 2.0 with several innovative features being developed to work hand in hand with our next Call of Duty release," said Hirshberg.
Call of Duty: Elite will also see additional features launched in the next 60 days, according to Hirshberg.

They had really immersive and innovative use of the mic and headset - the Rainbox 6's allowed you to control your squads (you had control of two squads back then) using voice commands like "Alpha 1 to point A; Alpha 2 sneak to point B; Bravo team cover fire"...
And 'Manhunt' had the NPC which spoke directly to you in your ear via your headset, and I love how the NPCs in the game actually reacts to noises that you make into the mic. It was amazing, having the director whispering to you, taunting you, telling you to kill kill kill, while you are trying to sneak around without making a noise. Once I was walking through the map and nearly bumped into a group of NPCs - they didn't spot me, but they heard me breathing through the mic so they came to investigate. I quickly ran into nearby shadows to hide, all the while holding my breath - and after a while they went back to where they were originally. I was about to sneak away when I suddenly spotted another NPC on the other side of the map, and at the same time the director suddenly spoke up in my ear, telling me to "kill those motherf**kers". I was so shocked I said "sh*t" out loud - and of course all the NPCs in the area heard me and started running to where I was, all screaming crazily about how they are going to find and kill me. I'm running and panicing, and the director is laughing in my ear... God I wonder why they don't make games like that anymore? It was bloody amazing.

Ha! Or maybe implement Rock Band controls? And allowing you to use your purchased tracks as weapons in MW:BO2? Heh, play the right cords in 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' and blow up a tank. (Okay, I actually wanna see that.)
