Rumours that Activision will introduce a pay-to-play subscription model for its Call of Duty franchise are false, studios Infinity Ward and Treyarch have confirmed.
A video had been doing the rounds which seemed to indicate a new subscription model was to be introduced to Modern Warfare 2. However, Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling shot down the rumours on Twitter last night.
"For the record, nobody has to pay to play [Call of Duty] or [Modern Warfare 2] multiplayer, nor will they," he wrote.
This was followed by a similar denial from Treyarch community manager Josh Olin.
"No, you will not have to 'Pay to Play' [Call of Duty: Black Ops] Multiplayer either," he wrote. "Rumour squashed."
For the time being then, you'll be able to continue to play Call of Duty titles without a game specific subscription.
