Activision on monetisation of online gameplay
Expect the publisher to launch additional online models for some of its biggest franchises.
Activision has revealed the extent to which it monetises online play in its biggest franchises will change in the coming years, with the introduction of "additional online monetisation models".
At the BMO Capital Markets Conference, CFO of Activision Blizzard Thomas Tippl was questioned about the possibility that the World of Warcraft business model would ever be translated to its other franchises? He said that while WoW's business model would be hard to replicate, we should expect additional monetisation models for its biggest franchises.
"It's definitely an aspiration that we see potential in, particularly as we look at different business models to monetise the online gameplay," said Tippl. "There's good knowledge exchange happening between the Blizzard folks and our online guys."
"We have great experience also on Call of Duty with the success we had on Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network. A lot of that knowledge is getting built into the Battle.Net platform and the design of that," Tippl added. "I think it's been mutually beneficial, and you should expect us to test and ultimately launch additional online monetisation models of some of our biggest franchises like Call of Duty."
Tippl further explained that demand for additional content is present in Activision's consumer base.
"Our gamers are telling us there's lots of services and innovation they would like to see that they're not getting yet. From what we see so far, additional content, as well as all the services Blizzard is offering, is that there is demand from the core gamers to pay up for that," he concluded.

What do Activision think they're playing at charging us twice?
The single player might as well not be there for 90% of people and the other 10% are paying about £7-10 per hours gameplay.
What would you guys be willing to pay for that you don't think should be included in the price?
