3 million Modern Warfare copies shipped to UK

Unprecedented first day shipment figure.

MCV reports that Activision has shipped three million copies of Modern Warfare 2 to the UK in order to satisfy what is expected to be the biggest entertainment launch in UK history.

The current record is held by Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto IV which sold 900,000 units over five days. Insiders have estimated MW2 will sell as many as 1.7 million units at launch, leaving around 1.3 million to satisfy demand in the run up to Christmas.

Modern Warfare 2 is out now for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
