Activision is hosting a Halloween Double XP Weekend for both Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, set to run October 28 through to November 1.

Even players ready to move onto Modern Warfare 3 in a few weeks should take part as it might earn you some Prestige Tokens for the new game. For each Prestige in Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, World at War and Black Ops, a bonus Modern Warfare 3 Prestige Token will be given out at launch, allowing players to begin unlocking rewards from day one in Modern Warfare 3.

With the Prestige Shop in Modern Warfare 3, each Prestige grants one Prestige Token to spend on unlocking a reward like double XP for a limited time or an extra custom class. Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling explains how it all works in the video below.

Modern Warfare 3 launches worldwide on November 8. Only yesterday analyst Michael Pachter said he believes Modern Warfare 3 will sell double that of Battlefield 3, a game which notched up pre-orders of three million.

This is also a crafty move by Activision to keep its player base stuck on Call of Duty, rather than dabble in EA's Battlefield 3 in the run up to Modern Warfare 3.

Crafty indeed. I'm already thinking of ways that I can get my Xbox connected to Xbox Live. Not that I have a gold sub any more. Or the time to play MW3 multiplayer. Nevermind. It was a nice thought.
