Xbox 360 patch awaiting Certification with PS3 patch just a little bit behind.
Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward Community Relations Manager, has announced that a new feature patch for Call of Duty 4 is now complete for Xbox 360 and is awaiting certification by Microsoft. The same patch for the PS3 version is a little further behind, but should also be sent to Sony for certification shortly.
The Xbox 360 patch will introduce new kill cams, host migration, improved sniper accuracy and an upgraded spectator cam.
Full details of patch detailed by Robert Bowling:
New Kill Cams
We've added new Kill Cams for everything. So now those "WTF!" grenades that seemingly come from no where, you can see that a guy threw it over the house, it hit a tree branch, bounced off a rock, into a tiny window, where you happened to be pointing out of, and say...... whoa. Follow behind RPGs and M203's kill cams, claymores, Airstrikes where you can follow the bomb from the plane until it hits you.
Host Migration
Now you won't have to be dropped back by yourself when a host leaves. Instead, everyone will stay together, a new host will be assigned, and the game will auto-start back up. Keeping everyone together, no more re-inviting, re-joining games because some host leaves. This has been a tall order and something that we've put a lot of work into which has allowed us to really optimize online play all around not just specifically with Host migration.
Improved Sniper / ACOG Accuracy
Sniper and ACOG scopes have been tweaked and are really improved. I use to not snipe at all (mainly because I'm a horrible sniper), but now it's so much more fluid and natural, while still having the same difficulty to use, it has no more "WTF I know I hit that guy!" moments.
Upgraded Spectator Cam
Now when you're in spectator mode you can follow them in 3rd person, switch to their first person view, or rotate the camera in a full 360 degrees around whoever you're watching.
Quick Mute Option
Users will now be able to quick mute players on the fly by pulling up the scoreboard in-game or via the lobby by simply going to their name and hitting the mute assigned button. As quickly as calling in and designating an airstike. So no longer getting killed while trying to make your way through the Xbox blades for the mute option so you can shut up the guy who always seems to find it funny to sing into his mic or cover up for his lack of skill by telling you how to play Domination his way.

Host migration should be neat. I can get killed faster when I don't have to spend time rejoining lobbies. I was surprised it wasn't included in the original.

Much anticipated update to CoD4.. Host migration should have been in place from the beginning, but better late than not. There are obvious snipping flaws at long distances - hope this will get resolved by the new update.
Also looking forward to seeing the new Kill Cams.

IW took way too long on these patches. Especially considering the fact that the PS360 owners consist of most of the COD4 sales.

Finally! This game will be much better now that we don't have to bounce out and re-join everytime the hosts decides he doesn't like his team.

Yeah this sounds like a sweet patch, but must admit that this has taken too long to be updated. The host migration sounds to be the best as we all hate the way your bounced out of games only to have to find a new one.
Perhaps more should be done with the hosting so that they can set matches, maps etc. but to be honest I'm not sure if that can already be done, I'll have to have a look and see.

So it's taken them a few months to get a patch put together.. Big deal. Aside from games disintegrating whenever the host leaves and the few times where your target somehow manages to evade a dead-on kill shot there's not much to gripe about when it comes to COD4's online playability. Sure the PC gamers have gotten patches; they're not subject to independent certification like consoles are. And.. I have to wonder why the PC version has been patched so many times? Ohhh.. That's right - because PCs don't come in one flavor, so to speak. It's not like everyone has the same components in their rig like console systems do. Anyway.. I'm looking forward to the patch and can't wait to see what the improved sniping accuracy will do for my proven marksmanship. The upgraded kill / spectator cams sound like they'd be fun, too. Keep up the great work, IW.

ive played with the update the kill cams and sniper accuracy has made it alot better but the one thing that really sucks about this update is how the host migration bearly selects the right host it leaves one with 5 bars and every1 else with crap

works great, I love how it fallows those damn 203. shots.. and the mute button almost makes me sad because I like to fight.. and now people can block my chat... but those pricks who love to play their music won't be able to annoy everyone anymore : )
