A Bulletstorm demo will be released on January 25 for Xbox 360 and January 26 on PSN, developer People Can Fly and Epic Games have announced.

The demo features a sample of the score and stat-based Echo mode in which players traverse a collapsed building on the deadly paradise planet Stygia as ex-Dead Echo leader Grayson Hunt.

Players will also be able make use of the Skillshot system, which encourages increasingly creative ways to kill enemies using an range of weapons: a futuristic assault rifle called the Peace Maker Carbine, to the Flail Gun, which fires two grenades linked by a chain, and the Screamer, a powerful revolver that turns enemies into human fireworks. More than 45 skillshots are featured in the demo.

The Bulletstorm demo also allows players to unlock platform-specific upgrades to use in the full game's Anarchy mode, from the Crimson Leash to Stealth Armor, when they purchase the full game.

All this comes ahead of the game's February 25 release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Xbox 360 owners can opt for the Bulletstorm Epic Edition, which grants early access to the Gears of War 3 beta, plus bonus in-game content. A Limited Edition will be available for the PS3 and PC, including additional bonus content.

I’m intrigued by this, will certainly give the demo a go but so far I'm not convinced.

I think that I'll base my decision to buy or not buy this on reviews, rather than the demo. I mean, like there isn't enough stuff out in Q1 this year.

Finding it very hard to muster any enthusiasm for this game if the truth be told. Really doesn't look like my type of thing.

I'm predicting my FPS fix this year will come from KZ3, BF3 and possibly L4D3. L4D is just a hope at the moment though.

Speaking as one of the few people out there who thought The Club was excellent, I can't wait for this one. FPS has become so stale and predictable, anything that tries something new inside the genre has to be welcomed with open arms. And it's not just brown, blue skies FTW!

Can't say I'm sold on this. I shall of course try the demo but but my expectations are rather low so far.

I've not got much to base this on, but I reckon Bulletstorm is going to be a better game than Gears of War 3.

Just a hunch ;p

Only interested because of the Gears beta in the special edition, weighing up the pros and cons of paying so much for the game just to be able to play Gears earlier :)

Both Brink and this look like hella fun, which makes for a nice change from the normal oh so serious ones out there.

Looking forward to this. I don't care about shooters at the moment, so this and Brink are all that's on my radar with regards to new experiences. Bulletstorm will be visceral like Gears was back in 06, but faster and more relentless like Unreal Tournament. Brink just looks damn smart.

Hmmm... I think I'll wait for the online Duke Nukem Forever component for my 'over-the-top shooter' requirements...

Still, looking forward to giving it a try - maybe a bargain purchase.
