Borderlands 2 from 2K Games has stormed to the top of the UK video game chart, becoming the best-selling launch week game of 2012 so far – beating previous leader Mass Effect 3 by over 4,000 copies.

The hit FPS managed to outsell the launch week figure of the original Borderlands (which charted at No.7 back in week 43 of 2009) by more than 4 to 1.

And Xbox 360 is the big winner from Borderlands 2’s success, accounting for 71 per cent of week one sales. PS3 only accounts for 22 per cent, whilst PC took seven per cent (likely to have sold many more copies digitally).

Borderlands 2 earned a very impressive 9/10 in our review.

This is great going for Borderlands 2, cementing Borderlands as a true triple-A franchise. However, expect FIFA 13 to smash the week one sales record this time next week.
