Borderlands the biggest new IP launch of 2009

Over half a million copies sold on Xbox 360 and PS3 combined.

According to Gearbox Software, its recently released FPS/RPG hybrid Borderlands has become the "fastest-selling original property video game launch of 2009".

The game was released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in October, and while exact sales figures aren't known, the NPD Group reported 418,000 units on Xbox 360 and 113,000 units on PS3 in the US during the October tracking period.

The first expansion, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, is to be released as a paid download on November 24 for PS3 and Xbox 360.
