Codemasters has begun a 30 day consultation period at its Guildford studio, with the proposal to retire the team behind FPS flop Bodycount.

If the publisher decides to go ahead with its plan the studio will be closed 30 days from now - its 66 staff have been informed.

The closure of its Guildford studio will open the door for further growth of the racing team at Codemasters' Warwickshire headquarters which handles DiRT, Grid, F1 Online and the EGO engine. A new team will also be formed in Birmingham alongside the F1 2011 team to work on a "new racing IP".

Guildford staffers will be "encouraged" to apply for positions at the Warwickshire and Birmingham studios.

Bodycount failed to make an impact in the UK chart, debuting at No.36 earlier this month.

Yeah I played the demo and liked it as well like but I'm also waiting until it's cheap. Can see it in the zavvi sales for two quid soon like.

The silver lining being that codies have pretty much perfected the racing genre already. So, to put another studio into racing development will only improve their already solid foundations. Commercially their FPS franchises have done fairly badly. Financially this is a wise move.

Bad news, made worse by the fact their last game was Bodycount...

Time = money, especially in todays climate.

I will hold my hands up, I rather liked the demo. When it is in the bargain bins, if not already, I will pick it up. Shame to see them close shop as it does have potential.

Ok the game was pretty bad but as @clockplunk says learn from customers feed back and build on it.

Studio closures are never good, as each has its own strengths and weaknesses. Its a shame that Bodycount flopped, but had Codemasters took all the feedback. and tried again wit such changes incorporated, they could have made a good game.

Shame the team will never get that chance.

Shame, I like Codemasters. Lets hope that cloud has a silver lining.
