Dead island trailer was great but in terms of excitement the GTAV trailer was the best for me it was more of an event than just an announce trailer with live webcams of ppl talking bout it hours before it went live n all the hype on every website.
I think they get a huge advantage by being able to draw on content that's not saying anything about the story. So much of what happens in games is just getting from A to B with nothing changing along the way, so showing Marcus Fenix shoot up some stuff near a bunch of stairs isn't really spoiling anything, but it's still content.
Sudden urge to play Enslaved. No idea why. Might get it on 360 so I can justify buying it with achievements. Great game that.
Quick thought: in games we don't have to worry about story spoilers in trailers because most games lack any story at all. That's some sort of advantage, right?
Sorry, my definition of enthusiast press is wrong >_< I meant what you said, bascally - surprise!. I initially thought "enthusiast" was to separate sites dedicated to games rather than one that covers other stuff primarily.
Of all the podcasts I listen to, there's rarely anything more than oversight or apathy towards anything Nintendo related. Skyward Sword will get very few GOTY awards, and that's because not enough people on editorial at these places will play it to make a convincing case. Except Edge, because they do what they want.
@altaranga - I was talking about the trailer specifically, though I'll admit I went off on something of a tangent.
I thought we were talking about trailers, not the games themselves. I'm sure Skyward Sword is a great game. The trailer, at least the one posted earlier in this thread, leaves a lot to be desired imo.
The enthusiast press still love Nintendo. The mainstream press are still too scared to play Nintendo games. They would much rather circle-jerk the same 3 Modern Warfare stories for an entire month.
Personally, my favourite trailer of 2011 was for Saints Row the Third, but not the one featured in this article. Instead, it was the debut trailer first seen back in March or April
Sorry, I'm just constantly annoyed at Nintendo games getting overlooked, especially ones that get released every 5 years. Their games aren't prominent in our conciousness any more, and all too often I hear people list great games that are coming out and they just forget Nintendo games completely or tack them on the end.
"Impact" and "making waves" shouldn't be a problem if we're just looking at good trailers rather than ones which are for popular games.
I thought the Skyward Sword "Romance Trailer" was exceptional, but I understand why most Nintendo trailers are overlooked: Nintendo's style of story telling doesn't translate well into a 2 minute 'film'. Not saying it should be in this list.
It's a landmark and turning point for one of the most important video game series ever, and I wonder how many people in the enthusiast press are actually going to play Skyward Sword.
must admit despite the assassins creed revelations being pretty sub par compared to the last few, the trailer was pretty good!.
aswell as maybe the michael trailer too! thought that was pretty good coming from a sony advert. and nintendo traiers dont realy seem to have a big enough impact compared to the other consoles maybe due to the lack of seriousness it brings to the table but thats my opinion
