Universal and Verbinski to figure out how to make the film on a smaller budget.
Variety reports that Universal Pictures has put the BioShock movie on hold over concerns that the movie's budget was too large - said to have been in the region of $160 million.
The movie had entered pre-production, but this has been halted and some production staff let go. Universal and Verbinski will now try and figure out how to make the film using less money.
Advertisement“We were asked by Universal to move the film outside the U.S. to take advantage of a tax credit,” Verbinski said. “We are evaluating whether this is something we want to do. In the meantime, the film is in a holding pattern.”
Verbinski has already shown his commitment to the project, having turned down directorial duties on the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean picture in order to direct BioShock. Variety also notes that all parties vow that the BioShock movie will not be the next Halo.
