SEGA has announced that it has become the official publisher of the Official Video Game of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
The agreement will allow SEGA to publish titles on console (including next-gen), PC/Macintosh, arcade, and handheld platforms. SEGA will also be publishing mobile phone games in the Asian markets. At this stage, with the game likely to be released in 2008, there are no solid details on the game. However, SEGA has said that the game will include a wide variety of sports, such as aquatics (diving and swimming), archery, baseball, basketball, boxing, canoe/kayak, cycling, equestrian, fencing, football (soccer), gymnastics, handball, field hockey, Judo, modern pentathlon, rowing, sailing, shooting, softball, table tennis, Taekwondo, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, and wrestling.
"[I]SEGA is excited to become the publisher for the Official Video Game of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and we are committed to creating innovative content for an unprecedented number of interactive entertainment platforms,[I]" said Hisao Oguchi, President and Chief Operating Officer of SEGA.
